Peggy Hawkins Skinner

Skinner(1)

Peggy Hawkins Skinner, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the age of 91. Peggy was born on May 2, 1933, in Eufaula, Alabama, to parents Mary Louise and Roscoe Hawkins. She graduated from Orrville High School in 1951. In February 1954, she was united in marriage in Selma, Alabama, to James B. Skinner of Marlin, Texas. They moved to South Texas, where Jim served as a pilot in the Air Force. After his retirement from the Air Force, Jim and Peggy moved to Dallas, Texas, to raise their three boys. Following their time in several Texas towns, they settled in Waco, Texas, during their retirement from the U.S. Postal Service.

Peggy was a strong Christian, a hard worker, and a devoted wife and mother. She loved hosting parties and always made the best food; anyone who came to her house left with a full belly. She cared for people deeply and never met a stranger. A loyal friend and confidant to many, she maintained close ties with her friends and family from both Alabama and Texas. Peggy was a devoted member of her church and volunteered at local nursing homes for many years to help the elderly feel less alone. However, her greatest pride and joy were her two grandchildren, Clayton Skinner and Elizabeth (Skinner) Gai. She never missed their sporting events, band concerts, or award ceremonies. Peggy ensured that they left her house with a full gas tank and a handful of food. She also took pride in her role as a great-grandmother to Elizabeth’s three boys. To know Peggy is to love her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Louise and Roscoe Hawkins; her son, David Skinner; and her husband, Jim Skinner.

Survivors include her sons, William (Bill) Skinner, and Andy Skinner and wife Kris Skinner; grandson Clayton Skinner and wife Kaitlyn Skinner; granddaughter Elizabeth (Skinner) Gai and husband Philip Gai, along with their three boys, Chandler, Cohen, and Anderson. She is also survived by many extended family members whom she loved very much.

Celebration of Life: 11AM Friday, December 6, 2024 at Renew Church, 6509 Bosque Blvd. in Waco, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Renew Church in Peggy’s memory.
