Ora Lee Pimpton Degrate, 86, of Golinda, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 29, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. T. E. Malone officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, March 28, from 6 to 8 PM at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online Guest Book at www.LakeShoreFuneralHome.com.

Ora Lee Pimpton Degrate was born June 2, 1926 in Asa, Texas to Lucious and Elnora (Hadley) Pimpton. She attended school at Brandon Chapel, Golinda. She was a fulltime wife and mother. She confessed her belief in God and was baptized at an early age. Ora Lee married N. C. Degrate, Sr. on March 19, 1946. To this union, thirteen children were born. She referred to her children as her jewels. She was a lifelong member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Degrate was recognized during the church centennial celebration for over 50 years of service at that time. At Mt. Olive, she has served as Vice-President of the Missionary Society, Assistant Youth Director, and as a Sunday School Teacher. She was well known in her community through her home mission work of visiting shut-ins, praying with the bereaved, as well as cleaning and cooking for the sick. Many individuals, who are now adults, recall memories of her holding bible studies in her living room with them as children. She often packed her car with grandchildren, as well as other kids in the neighborhood, taking them to church. In addition, she served as a spiritual and emotional anchor for her nieces and nephews. They often came to her for counsel and guidance. Her quiet presence and confident belief in God gave them strength. Prior to her illness, she was also known as a spirit-filled speaker. She frequently taught bible lessons at workshops for the Good Hope Western General Association Mission II. Mrs. Degrate hosted many Mission Society bible studies in her home, often leading worship with her favorite hymn A Charge to Keep I Have. One of her favorite scriptures to read was Matthew 6:33. Even in her illness, her faith and dignity was a role model for her children. She recognized the race is not given to the swift or the strong; but to the one that endures to the end. She endured with grace.

Amid much love, Ora Lee Degrate passed away at her home on March 26, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, N. C. Degrate, Sr., her parents, 6 grandchildren, 3 sisters and a brother. She is survived by her children, N. C. Degrate, Jr. (Dorothy), Barbara Ransome (Robert), Jessie Wilborn (Emmitt), Wayne Degrate (Diane), William Degrate (Sharon), Loretta Bible (Ronald), Floretta Jones, Vallerie Degrate-Vaughn, Ora (Lisa) Thomas (Jesse), Carol Keggins (Jackie), Janis Wilder (Jonathan), Johnny Degrate, and Patricia Daniels (Travis); two sisters, Vera Hawkins and Willie Jewel Cromer; 3 brothers-in-law, Ennis Degrate, Sr., L. C. Degrate, and Edmund Cromer; 39 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Degrate always challenged her grandchildren toward excellence with a quote she said she learned in childhood:
