Murray Burton, 62, of Houston, and a very familiar face here in Waco, died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center in Houston.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Ascension Episcopal Church, 2525 Seagler Road, Houston, Texas
Burial: Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston
Murray was born October 13, 1955 in Waco to Alan M. Burton, Sr. and Ann Park Mayfield Burton.
Murray was preceded in death by his sister, Katie Burton; his uncle, John D. Mayfield, III; and his aunt and uncle, Sandra Mayfield Coleman and F. Herman Coleman, Jr.
He is survived by his parents, Alan and Ann Park Mayfield Burton; sister, Terry Burton Kahn and husband, David of Houston; brother, Joel Wade Burton, Sr. of Houston; nieces and nephews, Kathryn Moreno, Cory Moreno and Joel Wade Burton, Jr., all of Houston; aunt, Beth Mayfield of Waco; cousins, Laura Williams and husband, Dale of Waco, John Miller Mayfield of Austin, Bill Coleman of Waco, Julie Luedke of Round Rock; John Lupton of Philadelphia, Lallie Lupton of Nashville, Emily Coleman of Waco, Cody Olson of California, Chris Luedke of Round Rock and James Raisanen and wife, Clair of Houston.
If you knew Murray, you knew he was the most giving, loving, positive human on the planet. His soul, heart and love blessed us every day. Always living in the “now” he was a joy to be with smiling and laughing and just being Murray. He loved to attend Ascension Episcopal Church, go on the Ascension senior bus trips to visit new places, travel with his cousin, Bill Coleman, go to Waco to visit family and friends, travel up and down Westheimer Drive on the city bus, Metro #82, to shop, drink his coffee and read the newspaper, listen to country music, listen to his Sirius radio, sing, collect stuff, follow the Aggies, the Crimson Tide, Astros and Texans.
During his many trips to Waco, Murray worked with his cousin, Bill Coleman, at Texas National Bank of Waco caring for the grounds and making customers smile. Later, Murray worked for Bill at the Coleman Autoplex in Gatesville where he made many life long friends.
Murray will be missed by his loving family and the many friends at Ascension, at the bus stops, at his favorite Walgreen store and many other places. Heaven is one member richer and the world is a much sadder place. He tried so hard to be brave and took it all like a champion.
This is what we know about Murray as stated in 2nd Timothy: chapter 4, verse 7
“I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith”

Murray was a gentle loving man who did not know a stranger, he loved to help people and his generous spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. His ability to remember details always fascinated me and his knowledge of daily news read from the paper was extraordinary , as was his ability to travel the Houston bus routes and know all the schedules. I cannot be there to say goodbye on Saturday but I will sing him a song in my head at 11am. Love to all his family.
