Mary Christine (Grote) Charlton, 92, of Marlin, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025.
Graveside Service: 1PM Thursday, April 10 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin.
Mary was born March 31, 1933 in Otto to George and Linda (Hefelfinger) Grote. Raised in a devout Christian family, Mary was deeply influenced by nightly Bible readings and prayers with her mother. She was confirmed at St. John’s Church in Otto at the age of 12.
On May 5, 1957, Mary married Bob Charlton, and together they had two children, Robert and Donna. They were the first to be baptized at the new Trinity Memorial Baptist Church in Marlin, where Mary cherished the church’s loving community. She often encouraged others to embrace their faith, believing wholeheartedly in the warmth of her church and the importance of love.
She dedicated 23 years to the Marlin ISD cafeteria before retiring in 1987. Mary was known for her welcoming nature, often greeting people with a hug and a smile. Despite declining health in her later years, her passion for ministry continued through her and Bob’s work at a nursing home.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; daughter, Donna; sister, Lucille Dietrich; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Charlton.
She is survived by her son, Robert, of Marlin.
