Martha Britton Thornton, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away February 13, 2025.
Visitation: 5 to 7PM Monday, February 17 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Martha was born January 4, 1936 to Samuel Lee Britton and Ella (Collier) Britton. She was a graduate of Hico High School. There she developed a love of basketball and was offered a scholarship to play in college but the stars had a different path for her. She met her husband Alton Thornton on a blind date in Duffau, TX and they married May 29, 1954. They were married for 63 years. Martha worked and retired from Telco Systems. She loved the outdoors, plants, animals, reading and garage sales. She had a kind soul and loved her grandchildren dearly.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Thornton; her parents; brothers, Walter and Lester Britton; and grandson, Billy Jack Whiddon.
She is survived by her son, John Thornton; daughter and son-in-law, Quata and Billy Whiddon; grandchildren, Christy and husband Lance, Tammy and husband Anthony, Christopher, and David. and great grandchildren, Gavin, Bralyn, Liam and Lily.
The childhood memories made with grandma will be cherished forever.
