Growing up in rural Antioch and child of Theodore Brackens.  Louis was no stranger to hard work.  They often quoted “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.” 2 Thessalonians 3:10   When he moved to Dallas he worked as route driver for Rainbow Bread/Bimbo for 32 years.   After retirement while working with his brother in landscaping business Louis was injured which resulted in him being Paraplegic; but he never let his condition dispirit him or dampen his spirits.

Everyone who knew Louis felt his big heart and sense of humor.  Louis antics were legendary and those who knew him have their own stories to tell (and possibly a nickname or two).  He was the life of any gathering; always had a colorful story, joke or something for you to ponder.  He was a sports enthusiast and Loved his Texas Teams –  Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks and Texas Rangers.  He often sported his ball caps showing allegiance to his teams. He loved his family and spending time with his brothers and sisters and their families.  No Brackens event passed without his presence, his playful banter /storytelling and laughter by all who were blessed to be in his midst.   He was a master on the domino table and had a gift for all thing’s numbers/math. He often entertained neighbors on Turner Street on back patio which he named “Hooterville”.

While Louis is known for his gregarious side he was also firmly rooted in the word of God a biblical scholar in his own rights.  He had vast knowledge of the Bible and intimate relationship with our Lord.  He also held bible studies in their home in East Waco for neighbors and friends.  Lo and spent countless hours going over scriptures w/ friends; his notebooks will now become priceless treasures of his family. Louis was long time member of Adams Chapel AME in Dallas  until moving back to Waco where he joined his family at Wesley United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Gary Gene, Billy, Theodore and James W.; two sisters, Melanie and Lois Marie; and previous wives, Patricia A. Birmingham, Flodine N. Morrison, and Callie M. Bracken.
