Born on March 16, 1929, in Elk, Texas, at the start of the Great Depression, Lillie Mae grew up in humble beginnings, helping her family pick cotton to make ends meet. From a young age, she learned the values of resilience, faith, and hard work—virtues that would shape the rest of her life.
Lillie Mae was a devoted Christian woman whose faith in God was unwavering. She made her relationship with the Lord a priority, not only for herself but for her children as well, raising her family with love, strength, and deep spiritual guidance.
In her early working years, she operated elevators in the Alico Building, a job she loved for the people she met and the joy she found in everyday connections. After raising five children as a single mother, she continued to dedicate her life to caring for others, working as a caregiver for the elderly until her retirement.
Despite facing many trials throughout her life, Lillie Mae never lost her faith. With the support of her children and the strength she found in the Lord, she met every challenge with grace. She lived a simple yet beautiful life and had a sweet soul that touched everyone she met. Friends, neighbors, and even strangers would often tell her family how kind and lovely she was.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: spending time with family, the color blue, sunflowers, and a good fried chicken thigh.
Lillie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Dulock; her brother, Henry Dulock, and his wife Wilda; her sister, Estella Young, and her husband Leland; and her son-in-law, George Long II, beloved husband of Pamela Long.
She is survived by her five children: Claudette and her husband Billie Yates, Dennis and his wife Carolyn Herring, Pamela Long, Lana and her husband Tim Harrington, and Claude Herring Jr.
She leaves behind a loving legacy in her grandchildren: Sonya and her husband Derek Davenport, Jimmy Yates, Amanda and her husband Justin Wolfe, Mallory and her husband Jacob Wortman, Eric Herring, Jessica and her husband Samuel Koenig, Haley and her husband Tyler Webb, George III and his wife Alicia Long, and Harrison Long.
Her great-grandchildren—Destiny Yates, Ashley Yates, Dayla and her husband Jeremy Coleman, Makayla Yates, Demi Wilson, Devon Wilson, George Long IV, Samuel Koenig II, Adelaide Long, Koen Koenig, Sutton Wortman, Hudson Wortman, and Baby Webb—will carry her memory forward for generations to come.
Her great-great-grandchildren—Baylie Coleman, Iris Yates, Carter Coleman, and John Wilson. Lillie Mae also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Lillie Mae’s life was a testimony of faith, strength, and sweetness, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
