LeRoy was born September 8, 1936 in Houston, Texas to the late Archie J. and Frances M. Bruner. After graduating from Milby High School, LeRoy served his country honorably in the United States Army.

At an early age, LeRoy began working as a Longshoreman at the Port of Houston. During his work on the waterfront he served as President and Vice-President for the I.L.A. Local #1273 and #24, Vice-President for the South Atlantic Gulf Coast I.L.A. District, Vice-President International Longshoreman’s Association, President of the Harris County AFL-CIO, Vice-President of the Texas AFL-CIO, and President of the Houston Dock and Marine Council. In 1987, LeRoy was appointed to serve as Port Commissioner of the Houston Port Authority. He served in this position for 10 years. After retiring from the waterfront, LeRoy worked as a Permit Inspector for the City of Pasadena.

On February 13, 1960, LeRoy married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Glazener. Together they were active members of Allendale Baptist Church in Houston and Parkview Baptist Church in Waco. LeRoy served as a Deacon for both congregations.

While at Allendale, LeRoy and Pat prepared and served each Wednesday night supper meal for 29 years. This dedicated service was continued at Parkview as they served as church hosts.

As a young boy, LeRoy accepted Christ as his Savior. His daily walk through this life was a true testament to his strong faith in the Lord. Many times he mentioned that the Lord God was “his rock” and his favorite scripture was Psalms 18.

LeRoy enjoyed fishing, playing golf, southern gospel music concerts, and was a diehard Houston Astros fan. LeRoy’s great passion in life was his family. He cherished time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved playing cards and dominos around the kitchen table. LeRoy enjoyed smoking one of his famous briskets or frying catfish for his family and friends.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Archie J. and Frances M. Bruner; and sister, Una Mae Sustala.

LeRoy leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 57 years, Pat Bruner; daughters, Leann Bruner and Lynda Hale and her husband Mike; son, Tim Bruner and his wife Rebecca; grandchildren, Matthew Bruner and Amanda Bruner; sisters, Betty Hood and Matilda Ferguson; along with numerous nieces; nephews, great-nieces; and great-nephews; and a host of loving friends.

Words cannot express the love I have for your family. I remember many a time sitting around with your family and thinking how blessed I am to have y’all in my life. Although years and miles separate us now, my love for you hasn’t diminished. Mr “B” will be missed terribly but his smile, his jokes, that look he could give that scared you to death until you knew he was joking, and most of all, the love he so clearly had for his family will be part of the precious memories I hold dear. Mrs. Bruner, I pray for that peace that surpasses all understanding for you, Leann, Linda, Timmy and the entire family. Thank you for the testimony of a loving family who truly love each other but even more, love the Lord! I love you!

What sweet special memories with each other all these years that ya’ll had together. How special and what an example to others. Serving with each other over the years for the Lord, what a legacy! You are special to us and we want you to know that ya’ll have been in our prayers. He will be truly missed. I still remember the time you posted that he was thinking he was getting into the banana pudding when in fact it wasn’t; he told you that was the worst banana pudding. May God comfort you and your family during this time. I know Ronnie enjoyed talking with Bro. Leroy and sharing stories at the men’s prayer breakfast on Saturday’s.
    Love,
    The Ruff’s
