Larry Gene Barnum, 85, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2023.
Larry was born April 7, 1937 in Horton, KS. He was the first child of Harley Eugene and Goldie Barnum. Larry went to Mercedes Highschool and UTRGV. He went to work for H&B Iron Works as owner/operator. In 1959 Larry met DeNell Curry. They were married one year later. Eventually they had two children, Barry Barnum and Gaye Barnum Hamilton. Last year, Larry and DeNell celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Larry was very involed in his children and grandchildren’s lives. He devoted many hours to agriculture and ranching, and was known for his membership with the Hidalgo County Sherriff.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harley Barnum; mother, Goldie Barnum; and brother, Bob Barnum.
Larry is survived by his wife, DeNell Barnum; son, Barry (Brenda); daughter, Gaye Hamilton (John); sister, Linda Friend (Rick); grandchildren, Brandon Barnum (Celeste), Brad Barnum (Desirae), Bryan Barnum (Rita), Jack Hamilton (Audrey Holloman); great grandchildren, Morgan Barnum, Levi Barnum, Violet Barnum, Landon Barnum, and Kayce Barnum.
