Kevin Glen Schutza

SCHUTZA 1

Kevin Glen Schutza, 46, a native of Waco, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, November 14, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Celebration of Life Service: Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.

Kevin was born September 3, 1971 to Glen Aubrey and Patsy Ruth Bottoms Schutza. Growing up in the Elm Mott area, Kevin attended grade school there and went on to attend school in the Connally ISD, graduating from Connally High School in 1990. In October of 1991, Kevin began his career with the Veteran’s Affairs Regional Office, working as a claims clerk. He took great pride in helping his veterans and their families. Kevin always wanted them to know and feel that they were respected and in turn those assisted by Kevin were always deeply grateful for his work. Kevin married the love of his life, Melissa Ann Easterwood, December 27, 1994. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and especially hunting and grilling for family and friends. Kevin’s family was his true passion in life; spending time with them and caring for them brought him great joy. Kevin retired from the VA Regional Office in June of 2014. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, “Nanny”, Alma Warwood.

Kevin leaves to cherish his memory and his legacy of caring for others, his loving wife of 23 years, Melissa Schutza; son, Kevin Cole Schutza; his parents, Glen and Patsy Schutza; sisters, Sherri Hicks and husband, David and Janna Cannon and husband, Robert; father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Melinda Easterwood; sister-in-law, Aimee Dupree and husband, Stephen; brother-in-law, Mark Easterwood; nieces and nephews, Emily Easterwood, Travis Hicks, Jeremy Cannon and wife, Shauna, Brett Cannon and Corey Cannon; great nieces and nephews, Kylee and Avery Cannon; along with numerous other loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Kevin’s family would like to offer a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Providence Hospice and the Hospice Place at St. Catherine’s for all their loving care and comfort they gave to Kevin and his family.

Those wishing to make memorial donations in Kevin’s memory are requested to do so to the National Organization for Rare Diseases (NORD) to help further the research for neurofibromatosis type 2 (https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/neurofibromatosis-2/), VA Regional Office or Providence Hospice.

My heart has been breaking for a long time, seeing what Kevin has been going through. But he was so strong, never complained, always made me smile and laugh. We have had a lot of good times over the past 22 years I have known him and Missy. So many happy, fun memories I will treasure for ever. I love his family…
I feel so much like a part of them. My love and prayers go out to Missy, who was by his side all these years and the love of his life; his precious son Cole, who was his heart and soul; Glen and Patsy, who, as I well know, have suffered the loss of a child which is indescribable; Janna and Sherri who loved their little brother beyond words. And all the rest of the family and friends who loved Kevin and will miss him so much. Rest In Peace my sweet forever friend…I know my precious Jordan was waiting for you and gave you a big hug…
