Mom Stacys wedding original1

On January 30, 2021 Mary Kay Garon passed away after defeating Covid but never really gaining her strength back.

Kay’s love of life didn’t come to an end with her death. Her sparkling blue eyes, infectious smile and fun-loving nature ensured that she never met a stranger.  Her quick wit and sense of humor were inherited by all of her kids and grandkids and her legacy of fun and laughter lives on through them.  She was a hugger, loved everyone and they knew it.  She demanded a hug by saying “Get over here and give me a hug!”  Unfortunately COVID really slowed down her hugging.

She was born to Katherine & Edwin Sims on June 13, 1935.  She entered this world smiling and never stopped.  She graduated Waco High School in 1953 and later married Edgar O. Garon on February 12, 1955.  She was a mother to 3 children, Suzanne & husband Tom Fulbright, Craig Garon & wife Deanna, Michael Garon & fiancé Cheryl Teague.  Grandmother to 6 grandchildren – Tommy Fulbright, Kyle Pillans, Stacy Laine, Amy Garon, Cody Garon & wife Brandi and Ashlye & husband Andy Ryan. And great grandmother to 12 great grandchildren, Sebastian and Presley Fulbright, Kyah and Kolby Pillans, Abby Laine, Logan Toole, Roy Bernal, Gunner, Brody, and Emma Garon, and Autumn and Lucy Ryan.  She spent 50 years working for State Farm Insurance and retired at the age of 80.  The last 35 years she spent living in Bayou Vista, Texas where her grandkids loved to visit and throw the cast net in the canal for whatever they could catch!  There she knew everyone and they knew her! In April of 2020, she moved back to Waco, her hometown, where she loved her new home and neighbors too.

She is preceded in death by her parents Katherine & Edwin Sims, sister Betty Ann Silva, daughter-in-law Nancy Garon,  grandson Christopher Fulbright and second husband Seabe Johnson.

Kay is being cremated and her family will have a Celebration of Life later this summer when hopefully it will be safer to come together.  She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

I knew Kay, Mammaw for 5 years and she was so accepting of me, my son and my grandsons. I dont think she ever met a stranger, always open and loving arms. Mammaw stayed with Mike and I on a couple of visits and was always a joy, never complained but always was quick with wit if we didn’t do things just right. Mike and I would call and visit together with Mama and always knew where we stood. We love and miss our visits. What a precious, loving woman this lady was! Gods blessings and Much love forever.

Condolence from Dr. Tran on April 7th, 2021 11:01 pm

Dear family of Ms. Kay Garon,
I first met Ms. Kay several years ago as I was starting my medical practice in Houston. She has such a beautiful soul and as the obituary above aptly states, had such a kind and loving personality with plenty of spunk and sass. Over those past few years, she had become one of my favorite patients. I am honored to be thought of in the notification of her passing and sincerely send my thoughts and prayers to Ms. Kay and her family.
