On Friday, February 21, 2025, Joye Marie (Cousins) Turner went to join our Lord and Savior.

Memorial Service: 10AM Thursday, February 27 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home’s reception center.

She was born in Houston, Texas on December 1, 1942. She graduated from Carthage High School in Carthage, Texas in 1961. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Houston and then attended Stephen F. Austin earning her Master’s degree. She was a dedicated educator and touched many lives throughout the 45 years she taught 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  After retirement, you could find her studying her Bible and reading her daily devotionals, taking her black lab, Raven, on car rides and walks.  She loved her pets deeply and cared for them as if they were her own children. She was a member of the Henry Downs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Sterling C. Robertson Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Dalton Cousins and mother, Tera Mary (Fuller) Cousins.

Survivors include her three children, William Dalton Turner and wife, Shauna, Daryl Ray Turner and wife, Kara, and Daneya Marie Meyer and husband, David;  grandchildren, Courtney, John, Taylor, Hunter, Emily, Alexis and Morgan; and five greatgrandchildren, Lane, Rylee, Gage, Gennevieve and Camille.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to the many caregivers for their support and kindness throughout the last year of our mother’s life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Waco Humane Society, Billy Graham Association, Mission Waco or American Family Association

Joye put her trust in the Lord and found peace in the following verse:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6.

    1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 KJV
[13] But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. [14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. [15] For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. [16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. [18] Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
