Coronavirus (COVID-19) Status

Joyce was born to Edmond and Mary Thompson (Lance) on August 2, 1938. Joyce married her loving husband of 53 years on November 19, 1960. Gene and Joyce lived the fairy tale marriage and always loved and cared for one another. Joyce was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a star athlete and has been inducted into the Midway Sports Hall of Fame for her prolific basketball career. She set two state records in 1955 while leading her team to the state championship.  Although Mrs. Haigood was a star athlete, she was an outstanding mother and grandmother.

Better known as Memaw, she gave all her children and grandchildren the utmost love.  She will be remembered as one of the greatest mothers and Memaw’s in all of God’s creations.  Joyce always put her children and grandchildren in front of herself and made sure they had everything under the sky. Memaw made it to every sporting event possible and always made sure to give her advice before complimenting.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother.

Memaw is survived by her daughters, Threasa Smith and Bubba and Debbie Dorris and Wade; son, Daryle Haigood; 10 grandkids; 14 great-grandkids; two great-great-grandkids; and by many other nieces, nephews and numerous loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Ryals Jr., Kevin Ryals, Tye Alambar, Tate Alambar, Cutter Haigood and Kalob Skains. Honorary pallbearers will be Gaige Coffman, Evan Moreno and Jacob Skains.
