
John Russell Hines, age 75, of Crawford, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Visitation: 3 to 5PM Sunday, December 22 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 10AM Monday, December 23 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel. A Family Graveside will follow at China Spring Cemetery.
Born on April 14, 1949, in Weatherford, Texas, John was the son of John Pete Hines and Betty Vell Bird. His early years were spent working on the family farm, where he developed a strong work ethic that would carry him through life.
John proudly served in the U.S. Army for nine years, with his final assignment as an ER nurse at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. Following his military service, he transitioned to the oil industry, contributing 33 years to Dowell, now known as Schlumberger. In recent years, John ventured into entrepreneurship by founding JRH Trucking.
In his personal life, John found his soulmate in Carla Jay Johnson, and the couple celebrated their love through 22 wonderful years of marriage, having exchanged vows on December 7, 2002.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and other cherished family members.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carla; sons, Pete Hines (Melissa) and John Hines II; daughter, Tammy Barrack (Craig); brothers, Steve Hines (Dedra) and Clyde Hines (Darlene); as well as grandchildren, Gavin Hines, Grayson Hines, Haley Hines, Jamie Hines, and Stephen Barrack. He is also remembered by his uncle, Bill Bird, and a multitude of cherished family members.
John was known for his generous spirit, kindness, and deep faith. He had a passion for storytelling—often lengthy—and loved sharing his life’s adventures. Additionally, he enjoyed making knives and cherished every moment spent with his family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Friends for Life or a charity of your choice. John’s legacy of love and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Words can’t convey the sorrow that must be with you now. Though I never met John, our brief conversations indicated a deep love between yourselves and an understanding that he was irreplaceable. So sorry for your loss, John was a very good person and was a good kid. I was raised in Westbrook and spent a lot of time with Johnny and his brothers, and spent a lot of time out on the pig farm, even some long cold nights delivering baby pigs with Pete and Johnny. Prayers for family.
