Jimmy R. Dowell, 68, of China Spring, passed away Friday, May 31st at his residence. Memorial services will be 10AM Tuesday, June 4th at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online Guest Book at www.LakeShoreFuneralHome.com.

Jimmy was born December 16, 1944 in Teague to Emmitt and Jewell (Hall) Dowell. He retired from Texas Utilities as a pipeline maintenance supervisor.

Jim was preceded in death by a son, Lance Dowell; his parents; and brother, Gerald Emmitt Dowell.

Survivors include wife of 46 years, Carolyn Jean (Ross) Dowell of Phoenix, AZ; son, Larry Dowell and wife, Susan of Robinson; daughter, Lana Dowell of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Colton, Makenzie, and Tylar Dowell; brothers, Joe Dowell and wife Mary Ann of McKinney, and Gene Dowell and wife Kay of China Spring; special cousin who was like a brother, Calvin Sanders and wife Minnie of Robinson; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

My deepest sympathies to all of Jimmy’s family. John and he were the best of friends for nearly 50 years and ultimately he was responsible for John and me getting married after being apart for 27 years. He will always be remembered fondly in our hearts.

Jimmy so many great memories, swimming in Magnolia, riding dune buggies and chasing birds on the motorcycle in the pasture in the middle of the night. The horse you gave me when mine died. The best ribs ever and lots of popcorn. Tell Lance hey for me. Kathy

I remember him taking me and his boys armadello hunting in teague,riding and camping with them on trail rides. He was always asking if anyone needed anything. He was a kind and loving man whom I think of every time I pass his old place in teague. Thank you Jimmy for great childhood memories that live on and are still cherished today.
