Jerry “Coach” Gaskamp, age 64, of Waco passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his residence.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Coryell City. The address is 10801 FM 929, Gatesville.

Jerry was born in Hillsboro September 14, 1953 to Henry and Edna Koehler Gaskamp. He was a 1972 graduate of Bynum High School and continued his education at Hill College and Sam Houston State University, where he graduated in 1976.

Coach enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports and all outdoor activities, but his greatest passion was coaching and teaching. During his career he coached all sports in various school districts throughout Central Texas. His longest tenure was fifteen years in Valley Mills and during that time the school won the baseball state championship two years in a row. His state championship rings were among his most valued possessions. After retirement, Coach went on to work with the Texas Youth Commission.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Tommy and Harvey Gaskamp.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Bobbie Gaskamp of Mart; and a large extended family.

I remember football practice at Hillsboro during two-a-days. He was a mountain, but always upbeat and approachable. I know he touched many lives in a positive way. This world needs more men like him. God Bless his family, and my heartfelt condolences for you loss.
