Jerry Lee Lynn

1000009154 Lynn

Jerry Lee Lynn, age 84, of Waco,  slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Memorial Service: 2pm Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.

Jerry was born to Ira Basom Lynn and Vivian Jeanette Potts Lynn in Wichita Falls, Texas on March 30, 1940. Jerry was always a happy, yet stubborn soul who loved to laugh and make others laugh. It must have been his way of finding his place in the family, he was the youngest of four brothers. He enjoyed telling how the brothers picked on him until he outgrew them all, he was over six foot tall. Jerry grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas and dropped out of high school in his junior year to join the Navy. It was in the Navy that he obtained his GED and took numerous other classes. He was stationed on several aircraft carriers; among them were The USS Randolf, The USS Bennington and The USS Yorktown. He served his country from April 1957 to February 1961 and was in the reserves until April 1963.

Jerry met and married Barbara Ann Wooten on November 20, 1958. He was a devoted and loving family man and together they raised two daughters, Pamela and Judy. After discharge from the Navy, Jerry joined the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. He advanced rapidly and they moved to Arlington, Texas. Jerry retired after 40 years of service. Sadly, Ann passed away October 30, 1996, he was left alone to care for his girls and his grandchildren. Some years later, Jerry fell in love with Norma Faye Hill, filling the void in his life. They got married on March 20, 2014. They spent several years traveling, laughing and enjoying life. He kept Norma entertained with his humor. He told her that he had laughed more with her than he had in his whole life. She describes him as her Long Tall Texan and the perfect Southern Gentleman. Being devoted to family, you could find Jerry at every family reunion, greeting everyone in his cap of fake bushy hair and a big grin on his face.

Jerry was preceded in death by parents, Ira and Vivian Lynn; 1st wife, Barbara Ann Lynn and brothers, Wayne Lynn, Jimmy Lynn, Billy Lynn and grandson, Corey Gill.

He is survived by wife, Norma Hill of Waco, Texas; daughters, Pamela Gill of Arlington, Texas, Judy Lynn and husband Richard Wetzel of Weatherford, Texas and stepsons, Jeffrey Hill and wife Hope of The Woodlands, Texas and James Hill of Farmersville, Texas; Grandsons, Zack Lynn of Mineral Wells, Texas and Chance Gill and wife Shaina of Madison, Wisconsin and Granddaughter, Skyler Lynn of Arlington, Texas.

The family would like to express gratitude to all the nurses and caregivers at The Atrium of Bellmead and Halcyon Hospice for their dedication and excellent care. They made sure he was comfortable and treated with the utmost respect.

Instead of flowers, please support Samaritan’s Purse in Jerry’s memory. He loved this organization and how they directly help those in need.

Condolence Messages

  1. My Uncle Jerry was very special to me. I remember when my dad passed in 1961 we moved back to Texas from Illinois. When he came home from work as a walking mailman he had been bite in the face by a dog. I just remember all the blood. He was a sweet soul in my life and my family’s life. We enjoyed all their visits to Virginia. I saw him last at their house in Waco as he laughed and we enjoyed our visit for a couple days just before he passed. So glad we stopped by to see him. Miss you Uncle Jerry. Your niece Patty Coryell.

  2. Love my cousin Jerry, he was a good man. He made Norma happy. I remembwr when I was younger his pranks would pull on me. Thank you for the memories. Love you Norma so much.
