Jerry Don Bryant, 78, of Woodway, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Providence Health Center.

Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 29, at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, in Waco

Memorial Service: 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 29, in the chapel at Lake Shore Funeral Home.

Don was born May 6, 1939 to Roy and Ruth Bryant in McLennan County near China Spring. He graduated from China Spring High School in 1957 where he excelled in basketball. Don served in the National Guard along with serving on the China Spring School Board of Trustees and was a McLennan County Constable.

Don married Janie September 17, 1981.

He was a co-owner of Bryant & Frey Construction Company for many years with his close friend Don Frey. He later was owner-operator of his own truck and spent many happy years “trucking” as “Mr. B”.

He was an avid Rangers fan and loved all Baylor sports. His favorite thing was trips to the casinos with Janie where he was “Keno King”. They enjoyed traveling anywhere as long as there was a casino, but in later years, mostly trips to Louisiana.

Don lived his life on his own terms. He worked hard and played hard. Don was the true Texan. He will be greatly missed by a large loving family and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janie Ruth Bryant; daughter, Gwen Diaz; and his first wife, Shirleen Lindsey Bryant.

Don is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janie Dobbs Bryant of Woodway; daughters, Robin Loranc and husband, Scott of Austin, Tricia Vasquez and husband, Abel of Round Rock, Donna Phillips and husband, David of McGregor, Cyndi Gonzalez and husband, Rigo of Axtell and Kellie Sparks and husband, Ben of Fort Gibson, OK.; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Jimmy Bryant and wife, Virginia of China Spring and Melvin Bryant of Wortham Bend; sister, Hanna McLeary and husband, Lee of Waxahachie; his in-laws, J.P. and Sylvia Dobbs of Garrison and Joyce Allison of Uvalde; his cats, Gracie and Rags; and his loyal friends, Don Frey and Mike Boyd.

  7. I am sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of growing up with the Don in Wortham Bend. We graduated high school together then lost contact with each other so it has been a long time since I saw or talked with him.

    Robin and Trisha and the entire Bryant family – so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. We have many memories of our Jo Betsy days when all you kids were young, of going to football games together in the motor home and just good fellowship among neighbors.
