Jerome Eric Lehrmann

thumbnail MIMI AND PAPA

On Saturday, February 8th, 2025, Jerome Eric Lehrmann, 85, entered the embrace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in eternity surrounded by his loving wife of 64 years and his children on his Axtell, Texas farm.

Jerome was born on April 16, 1939, to Paul and Lydia (Fenske) Lehrmann. He grew up on the family farm in Hallsburg, Texas along with his brother Wesley and sisters, Lucille and Norma Jean. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Riesel High School in 1958. Jerome served our country in the US Army with honor in the early 1960’s.

Jerome married Janie Lou Vicha on August 12, 1960. They were blessed with three children, Jeff, Ashley, and Courtney, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

He served our Lord in various leadership capacities and as a dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bellmead. He retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Container factory in 2000 after 35 years of service.

Jerome was a dedicated steward of God’s creation. Growing up on the family farm, he loved caring for animals his entire life. Each new calf or spring crop of oats was a celebration of God’s gift of life. He was a skilled mechanic, welder, carpenter, electrician, and a doer of whatever needed to “get done”. He disliked “wasting sunlight” and never met a challenge he could not overcome, a crop he could not harvest, an animal he could not care for, nor a friend he could not lend a helping hand.

Jerome leaves a legacy of God’s grace and love through his loving wife of 64 years, Janie Lehrmann, his children and their spouses, Jeff & Cindy Lehrmann, Ashley and Tim O’Donnell, Courtney & Clint Schnell, his grandchildren, Jared Lehrmann and wife Alexandra, Justen Lehrmann and wife Nicole, Jorden Lehrmann and wife Brittany, Caitlen Lehrmann, Jack Schnell, Evan O’Donnell, and Jake O’Donnell, and his great grandchildren, Julie Lehrmann, Warren Lehrmann, Tatum Lehrmann, Paige Lehrmann, Emma Lehrmann, Collins Lehrmann, and Cade Lehrmann. In addition, countless others were enriched by Jerome’s thumbprint of God’s grace on their hearts.

A gathering to celebrate Jerome’s life and legacy is planned for Friday, February 14th, 2025, held at 4Oaks Ranch in Axtell (1281 Riley Road) from 5pm to 8pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15th, 2025 at 10 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waco with an interment immediately following at Gerald Cemetery in Elm Mott. All family and friends are invited to all events.

The family sends personal thanks to Jerome’s wonderful caregivers Kalen, Wanda, Elizabeth, and Judy.

And if you will indeed obey my commandments that I command you today, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, he will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the later rain, that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil. And he will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be full. – Deuteronomy 11:13-15

What a beautiful tribute to a wonderful servant of our Lord. His brother Wesley was our brother-in-law and we recall so well the family gatherings. His love of the land is a gift from the Lord—a special blessing. May the Lord grant the peace and comfort to the family on He can provide. Thank you again for sharing so many things about Jerome’s life and his service to the Lord.

    Jane and Raymond Teske, Jr,
