Winifred Jane Kirk, 97, died June 1 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
Kirk was born on Jan. 8, 1915 in Virginia, Minn., to Ed and Winifred Maher. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and from the University of Wisconsin. She married Elwood Lamar Kirk of Kerens, Texas, on May 7, 1943 and they remained inseparable until his death on June 23, 2000.
They made their home in Harlingen, Texas where she taught in special education for the Harlingen Independent School District. In 1976, they moved to Leakey, Texas, where she once again taught school until her retirement. In 1995, they moved to Temple. She moved to Salado in 2009.
She was a member of the Church of Christ, attending the Salado Church of Christ at the time of her death.
She is survived by four children
