Jacob D’Shaun Ybarra, 20, of Mart, died early Sunday morning, April 18, 2021 at his home. May 18th, he would have turned 21.

Jacob was born May 18, 2000 in Mexia to Maria and Anthony Medlock.
Jacob attended Head Start in Mart until the age of 7, then moved to Groesbeck where he began his love for football in pee wee. He then returned to Mart towards the end of middle school. Back home in Mart is where he was actively involved in football, basketball and track.
Jacob was preceded in death by Roberto “Dove” Aparicio; and Ethel “Granny” Williams.
He is survived by his parents, Anthony and Maria Medlock; brothers, Estephan Hickey and Warner Horton, II; the Mother of his unborn child, Madison Hubbard; best friend, Shontel Kubitza; grandmothers, Maria Rodriguez, Claudia Medlock and Carolyn White; grandfather, “PawPaw” Dwight Walker; little sister, Triana “Twin” Medlock and Darrius Dudley; Alitza Ybarra and Jason Miller; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Justin Sawyers, Brandyn Canady, Randy Canady, Martel Jefferson, Xavier Reyes and CJ Jefferson.

There are no words to say how sorry I am. However, I do have a story that I do want to share. While working in Mart, I had several different classes but did not actually teach Jacob. He would come into my class because he didn’t have any other place to go and hang out until football practice. He would enter my class, grab a coloring book or a sketchbook and go sit in the back row and quietly draw or color. One day, he decided that he was going to draw portraits of everyone in the class. So, once he was done, he asked if he could present them and of course, I said, “Yes!” We have never laughed so hard, he was so entertaining and such a good sport. I will forever miss that face and that kid that I called “noodlehead” because of that hairstyle that he rocked during my time at Mart. Rest easy kiddo until I see you again.~~Always Coach Connally

He will never know what he meant to my girls. He was the big brother they never had and watched over them. Their lost without him. We love him so much and smile at the memories we have of him.

I lost a great friend and classmate back in 2021 and I’m sorry if I’m a little late writing this. Jacob was truly a great person inside and out. He was one of those guys the could light up a room the minute he walked in it. I loved having him in High School classes together because he made it fun. It’s with a heavy heart that I had to lose a friend so early but he’s with God now. Prayers and love go to all the Medlock family for this tragic loss. I’ll continue to pray for them to this day and hope God wraps his arms around them even to this day and forever more.
I love and miss you Jacob like crazy and hate to see you gone so soon.
