Henry Lee Campbell, Jr, 81, of Lacy Lakeview, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 8, 2020.

Funeral Service: 11 AM Saturday, February 15th at Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church, 500 Turner St. Waco, 76704.

Burial:  Doris Miller Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6 to 8PM Friday, February 14th at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.

On January 3, 1939, Mr. Henry Lee Campbell, Jr. was the first son born to Henry Lee Campbell, Sr. and Ms. Ester Ruth Holmes-Campbell in Marlin, Texas. Henry was the second of 12 children. He attended primary school in Harrison’s Switch, Texas and secondary school at A.J. Moore High School in Waco, Texas. After leaving high school in the 11th grade to join the military, Henry served three years in the US Marine Corp and was honorably discharged. Following his military service, Henry recognized the limitations of not obtaining his high school diploma and returned to school to obtain his GED. He continued his education completing studies in Dental Technology at Texas State Technical Institute and receiving an Associate Degree in Nursing at McLennan Community College. While he was working and raising a family, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Tarleton State University. Henry worked as a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration for over 35 years.

Henry was a family man. He and his wife, Mrs. Louretha Williams Campbell, were married for 52 years. In addition to raising his family, Henry was also active in the community as a coach for youth sports. He coached football, baseball and summer track for many years. He enjoyed attending sporting events and watching all types of sports on television. Many of those whom he coached still today refer to him as “Coach.” Henry’s other hobbies included fishing and signing on to his CB radio as “Batman.”

On Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 9pm, the Lord called Henry home as he passed away peacefully following a life well-lived with many close family and friends by his side.

Henry confessed his belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized by Pastor Loree Grimes of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Later in life, he became a member of Greater Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and supported the church up until his homegoing.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Debbie L. Richards Trotter, three sisters Adrena, Lula Mae and Eddie Mae.

He was cherished and loved by many, including his lovely wife, Louretha: four children – Raymond “Chuck” Wilson (Josephine), Henry L. Campbell, III (Kim), Christopher L. Campbell (Andrea) and Erreka Campbell; four sisters – Helen Hall, Ruth Estelle (Artee), Kathy McCoy and Marilyn Cleveland; five brothers – Louis (Pearlie) Campbell, Leroy Campbell, Melvin Campbell, Roosevelt Campbell and Cecil (Linda) Campbell; thirteen grandchildren – Desmond (Mika), Nicole (Emilio), Chardria, Princeton, Kendall, Kayla, Jazmyn, Malik, Mekhi, Malcolm, Chuck, Tanikwa (Joshua), Deon (Evelyn); and eight great-grandchildren – Chloe, Spencer, Ethan, Ejay, Princess, Joshavia, Trinidy, and Chummulle.
