
Rev. George Douglas Gilmore went home to be with the Lord on February 22, 2025, from his residence in Durango, Texas.
Visitation and Viewing: 6 to 8PM Friday, February 28 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 10AM Saturday, March 1 at Church of the Open Door. Burial will follow at Robinson Cemetery.
George was born on May 29, 1942, in Earth, Texas, to Clarence Gilmore and Susie Hobbs Gilmore. He grew up in that area and, at the age of twelve, moved to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. At seventeen, he joined the Navy. After serving honorably, he met and married his wife of 59 years, Mae.
He graduated from Texas Wesleyan College in 1975 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He later attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and was credentialed with The Assemblies of God. In 1981, he was ordained with The Pentecostal Church of God, where he remained until his passing.
George pastored nine churches, pioneering three of them. He served as business manager and an executive on the finance committee of The Pentecostal Church of God for nine years. Additionally, he was the business manager at Messenger College and authored Sunday School materials and two books.
Beyond his ministry, George enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and inventing. He cherished spending time with his wife and family and had a lifelong love of learning.
George is survived by his wife, Mae Gilmore; children, Rebekah Stanley, Hope Hutsell, and Douglas and Shelly Gilmore; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, James Messer; and numerous nephews and nieces.
