
Gaynell Mitchell, 86, passed away on March 30, 2025.
Funeral Service: 2PM Thursday, April 3 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel.
Graveside Service: 12:30PM MST Tuesday, April 8 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Lovington, NM.
Gaynell Holladay Mitchell was born March 13, 1939 in Floydada, Texas to Bill and Clorene (Young) Holladay and was raised in west Texas in a Church of Christ family. She shared a birthday with her twin sister, Juandell. As a mother of four, Gaynell was a hard-working lady who focused on providing for her family. She worked over forty years in law enforcement as a dispatcher. She willingly worked the ‘not so popular’ (graveyard, weekend) schedule and enjoyed it and enjoyed being a member of the law enforcement team in Farwell, TX and Muleshoe, TX.
Gaynell was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Clorene Holladay; brother, Donnie Holladay; and son, Kelly Reese Mitchell.
She is survived by her children, Duane Mitchell, Teresa Taylor and husband Mark, and Britt Mitchell and wife Joretta; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Ashley, Brandi, Briana, Corey, Brooklynn and Brina Mae; ten great grandchildren, Aiyana, Lilly, Michael, Elijah, Charlotte, Keller, Koda, Bradley, Ryleigh and Grayson; sisters, Juandell Blackwood and Cynthia Bryant; brother, Keith Holladay and wife Sue; and several nieces and nephews.

Gaynell was dearly loved by all in the Muleshoe Police Department and Bailey County Sheriff’s Office. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
