Gary Gregory Obit

Gary Gregory, 73, hit his final home run and rounded the bases of life as he finished his home run trot on Thursday, November 2, 2017.

Memorial Service: 10am Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Hewitt Community Church, 212 Kiowa Trail, Hewitt, TX 76643.

Flower Deliveries: deliver to the church from 8-9 AM on the morning of the service.

Gary was born to Albert Newton and Florence Jane (Bullock) Gregory on March 2, 1944 in Newark, OH. He married the love of his life, Sherry (Bowman) Gregory on November 24, 1976 and on July 3, 1978 they welcomed their precious little girl, Stephanie Jo, and life was never the same.

Gary had a huge heart for God, his family, country, baseball, sports and those around him in need. It was not uncommon to have him fix a leaky sink, install a fan or spend time playing dominoes with those he cared for. He loved baseball with a passion and was honored to play for his Sports Illustrated recognized award winning hometown Baltimore team. He coached and umpired hundreds of kids and each left an impression on him and his love for the game.

Gary proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and continued to display his patriotism wherever he went and was honored to be selected as the first recipient to represent Columbus, OH in the Honor Flight as a Vietnam Veteran. He was a proud American who fought long after the war every day with complications from agent orange exposure. He worked over 20 years at Anchor Hocking in Lancaster, OH. He moved to Texas in 1988 where he worked as a designer for Lux Packaging Corporation which later became PCA for thirteen years, where he finally resigned, due to his continuous medical battle.

Gary was a proud to serve at many different churches during his life that included New Life Christian Center, Victorious Life Church, Harvest Time Revival Center and Hewitt Community Church.

He was a selfless person who gave hours of time to help others and later in life enjoyed spending extra time with friends and family he loved. He loved a simple game of dominoes or Yker, watching an Ohio State football game, ushering at church, cracking a joke and on a good day, fishing or traveling the fifty states . Gary loved to tease those around him and keep them laughing. He had a competitive nature and usually gained attention whether he was playing with friends or watching a grandchild’s game.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Florence Jane Gregory; sister, Sue Richards; and father-in-law, Carl Bowman.

Gary was survived by his caring wife of over 40 years, Sherry Gregory of Woodway, TX; loving daughter, Stephanie and son-in-law Justin Arnett; his pride and joy, grandchildren, Julieana and Jeremiah Arnett all of McGregor, TX; brother, Rod Gregory of Lancaster, OH; sisters, Elaine and brother-in-law Patrick Quinn, Dawn and brother-in-law David Jackson all of Baltimore, OH; brother-in-law, Dale and wife, Angie Bowman, of Lancaster, OH; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends and teammates throughout the United States.

He fought the good fight and won. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, but we will forever have the memories to hold onto until we meet again in Heaven. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7
