  3. Rest in peace Garland. Thank you for everything you taught and did for all of us on the baseball field!

  4. I first came to know Garland about 1954 through baseball in the Northern Little League. Although we never played on the same team, we played a lot of sandlot baseball together and would even mow a vacant lot in order to have a place to play. He played on teams coached by my dad, James Shaw Sr., and was a favorite of my mother, Pansy Shaw. She had a name for him, "Red Mule", due to his red hair and the way he looked over his shoulder while running to first base, which she said reminded her on one of the mules on the farm where she was raised. Before you balk at the name, you should know that she only gave nicknames to people she liked, and I liked him, too.

  22. Shirley, my heart goes out to you. My husband on May 7th. went in for a colonoscopy came home, and called be in the afternoon tell me he was bleeding rectally and having difficult time feeling his left side. My son & I rushed home to get him to Providence. The short and long is that he had a stroke. After Providence we went to HC Rehab., got settled in that night. The next morning I was called around 11:50 tell me they were taking him to HC. that he was unresponsive. then the next week I get another call after I had left the hospital tell me that we need to make a serious decision to remove the right side of his skull to let the brain finish swelling. He is now level 3 comatose and not sure how long it will be before they put the skull back together. and some point in time we will have to possibly go to a long term facilliy to care for the neurological aspects and stroke to hopefully recover movement in left side. Please keep my sons and me in your prayers.

    Friend,
    Peggy Blake
