Eugene Sanford Echols, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at his home in Groesbeck, Texas.

Service Information: Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering on Thursday, June 24^th at 2:00 p.m. at the Confederate Reunion Grounds located at FM 1633, Mexia, Texas.

He was born December 3, 1928, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Henry and Nellie Jane (Brown) Echols. He was the youngest of 3 brothers. In 1945, at the age of 16, he joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country for four years, which included two years overseas during WWII. He married his sweetheart, Virginia Echols, on October 22, 1960 in Houston, Texas. They built a beautiful life together with their four children. Eugene truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; fishing, traveling the country, spending time with his family, and working hard.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; his son, Joe (Beverly) Echols; his daughter, Stephanie (Lee) Jones; his daughter, Regena Echols; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Buster and Curtis Echols; his son, Rod Echols; and his grandson, Joel Echols.
