Born on February 20, 1961, to Bessie Mae Willis and Wilbert Carter in Fairfield, Texas, Alvin touched the lives of many throughout his journey. Alvin was a proud graduate of Fairfield High School, class of 1979, and soon after began a fulfilling career that spanned decades. At the tender age of fifteen, he met the love of his life, Margie Nell Ransom. After their paths diverged for a time, fate brought them back together, and they were joyfully married on June 23, 1980. Their union was blessed with five wonderful children, forming a tight-knit family that exemplified love and resilience. In 1982, the Carters made the move from Dallas, to their hometown of Fairfield. He became an integral part of the Nucor Steel Mill team in Jewett, TX, where he dedicated his talents from 1984 until his well-earned retirement in 2001. Even after retirement, Alvin continued to work passionately for various organizations, ultimately finding his second family at Long Industries, Inc. There, he cherished strong bonds with both management and co-workers, who remained a testament to his diligent spirit.
Alvin will be remembered not only for his adventurous spirit but also for his vibrant hobbies that brought joy to his life and those around him. An avid hunter, he was particularly known for his skills as a coon hunter, often sharing tales of his adventures under the moonlight. Fishing was another passion close to his heart; he loved nothing more than passing down the art of angling to the younger generations in his family, instilling in them a deep respect for nature. A self-taught welder, Alvin found beauty in the craft, taking pride in creating functional art with his hands. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, where he expressed his love and dedication, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Alvin’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He answered the divine call to the ministry, delivering his first sermon at Faith Temple Ministries under the mentorship of the late Ivy Joe Rischer, Sr., Founder. He remained a devoted member and musician at Cornerstone Full Gospel Church, Inc., guided by Apostle David Ransom, Sr. and Pastor Sha-Wanda Ransom. His musical journey began under the loving guidance of his grandmother, the late Lula Mae Willis, and Mitchell Gatson. He cherished the gift of music throughout his life.
Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Tracy and Lula Mae Willis; granddaughter, Zyhia Shalise Katrice Carter; brother, Christopher Renee Carter; father-in-law, Bobby Lee Ransom and brother-in-law, Richard Harris Ransom.
Alvin is survived by his cherished wife, Margie Nell Carter; their children: Bobby Fernell Carter, Sr. (Yvonne), Antonio Montrece Carter (Tammara), Alvin Montrece Carter, Jr., Akewa Owina Shalise Tieman (Michael) and Shakeal Fernell Carter (Brianna); grandchildren, Alexis, Bobby Jr., Tonio, Samahgia, Sir’Micah, Averi and Anai; great-grandchildren Mason and Allison; his mother, Bessie Mae Thompson; and brothers Kirby Carter and Wendell Carter; godchildren, Bishop Carlos Daniels, Sarah Jones and Norbert Hill.
The Carter family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Solaris Hospice for the compassionate care they provided during this difficult journey. Their dedication and kindness brought comfort and peace to Alvin in his final days. We also wish to thank Long Industries and Justin Stephenson for their unwavering love, support, and encouragement.
