Earl Joseph Johnson, age 78, passed away February 14, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Graveside Service:  1pm Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Oakwood Cemetery, Waco

Earl was born May 11, 1946 in West, Texas to Robert and Sallie (Shaw) Johnson.  He graduated from Dunbar High School where he excelled in academics as well as football and basketball.  After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army.  After serving only three months in the Army, Earl was promoted to Buck Sergeant.  During his time in the Army he served in Vietnam in the infantry division.  He was honorably discharged in 1968 in California.

Earl moved to Waco, Texas and married Goldberta (Summers) Johnson on March 10, 1969.  This March they would have celebrated 56 years of marriage.  To this union they were blessed with four daughters.

Earl worked for Certainteed Plastics and retired after 44 years of dedicated service.  He also served in the National Guard.  In his retirement years Earl enjoyed spending time with family and friends and watching his favorite football team – The Dallas Cowboys.  He will always be remembered for his dedication to his faith, family, friends and country.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Sallie Johnson; daughter, Rosalyn Johnson; brother, Rev. James Richard Johnson and grandson, Bryan Bledsoe.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Goldberta; daughters, Pamela, Jacqueline and Tamaria Johnson all of Dallas; sister, Mary Clater of Jacksonville, TX; grandchildren, Christopher Francis and wife Tiara, Ryan Bledsoe, Asia Johnson, Justin Watley and Jacques Johns; great grandchildren, Cariree Francis, Ti’An Francis and Christopher Francis, II; devoted nephew, Christopher Johnson; devoted nurse, Cindy Page; and a host of other family and friends.
