Posted By Lake Shore Funeral Home On March 24, 2020 @ 11:43 am In Obituaries | 12 Comments

Douglas “Wayne” Allred, 66, of Waco, died Sunday evening, March 22, 2020, after a short battle with cirrhosis of the liver. He was at his house surrounded by his loved ones.

Service Information: Private graveside service was held at Rosemound Cemetery. A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at a later date.

Wayne was one of the biggest Baylor Bear fans that his family and friends knew. He loved and attended all of Baylor functions that he could. He loved movies, music, singing and playing spades. He always made jokes and was always the life of the party.

Wayne was, among other things, a wonderful father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

He leaves behind two adult children, Amy Nodine and Jeremy Allred; his parents, Martha Wood and Douglas and Bobbie Allred; several sisters, brothers and grandkids; a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him but are thankful for the time they all had with him.

He was, and is, so loved, and will be dearly missed. And as he would say “Hey”

Place of Service: Rosemound Cemetery , 3201 S. 12th St.; Waco, TX 76706

As Plant Manager in Waco, Texas, Wayne was an employee of mine at Paragon Trade Brands for 14 years. Wayne epitomized what it meant to be proactive and helped our site transition from one that “did it that way because that’s the way we always did it” to one that embraced our new approach – the Team Concept. As automation was rapidly displacing the need for “traditional” skills, Wayne saw a need for insuring our product was more visible on the shelves of our customers. He grew his small department into a larger one that allowed instant responses to Customer’s needs and in the process saved literally hundreds of thousands dollars using product that might have otherwise been “scraped” using past practices. RIP Wayne and insure anytime I hear anyone yelling “Hey” sounding more like “Hay”! I’ll look expecting to see your wide smile and ever presence positive attitude! You were truly a “Knowledgeable Proactive Associate”!

I first met Wayne when I worked with his daughter Amy at a bank back in 2011. I currently have the pleasure of working with his sister Tracy. He was always full of energy and had a smile on his face. From the first time we met and up until he passed he would always kiss my hand or give me a hug every time we saw each other. A few times he saw that I wasn’t feeling very well and asked if I was ok. I bashfully put my head down and said that I was fine. He clearly saw that I was telling a lie and he looked me in my eyes and stated ” If you ever want to talk we can sit down and have a glass of lemonade whenever you are ready. ” I would have loved to sit and talk with him but I’d never want to bring on my problems and emotions to someone that was always so happy. So I say that to say this, rest in peace Wayne. I regret that I didn’t get to see you in your last days . The kisses and hugs you have given me will never be forgotten and when I’m sitting and thinking about life and feeling down, I can sip a glass of lemonade and think of you. Your spirit will always be here with us. So thankful I met an amazing man like you. I will continue to keep the family in my prayers.

To Wayne’s family. I am just learning of Wayne’s passing. I had not heard from him since the end of February. So, I
sent a text message to check on him, and I didn’t get a response. This was not normal.

My family sat near Wayne for years at Baylor basketball games. He was always so much fun to be around at games, and we always enjoyed visiting with him! I’m confident few were more energetic than him at a game. He particularly loved his Lady Bears!

Our heartfelt condolences go to you all.
