Douglas A. St. John, 72, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021.
Visitation: 6 to 8PM Wednesday, November 3 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Graveside Service: 10AM Thursday, November 4 at Oakwood Cemetery
Douglas Arthur St. John passed away on October 18, 2021 at the age of 72, in his hometown of Waco, TX. Doug fought Covid valiantly, with his wife, Linda, daughters and grandkids by his side.
Doug was born in Steubenville, OH on January 22, 1949, and lived life to the fullest. He proudly served in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1973. He hated cold weather, so he moved to Texas as fast as he could so that he could leave his Navy peacoat in the closet. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington, and worked for decades in the printing business, where he invested in many friendships.
There was not a day that passed that Doug did not engage in any number of hobbies-too many to list, but most of all, included playing the banjo and guitar, playing golf with his good friends, and riding his Harley Davidson with Linda on the back. He loved the sound of the ocean, banjo, steel guitar, and could listen to music for hours. He had a wonderful eye for photography -perpetually behind the camera. He was the kind of man that filled the room with love and laughter, and never made you guess his opinions on any subject. He was a big personality and was absolutely loved by his family and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Mary; father, Arthur; brothers, John, Gene and Darryl; and sister, Onilee.
Doug is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda; daughters, Aimee and husband, Charlie, Kayce and husband Marcus, and Heather; stepsons, Chris and wife, Phyllis, and Jason and wife, Cherie. He had 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren that he adored and who loved him dearly.

Yes Doug was certainly a big personality big laughter big hugs big love and of all a big heart. He is also survive by others who loved him actually many who loved him.
He will be very missed Fly high Doug!
I could write a book about Doug and or exploits such as fishing, hunting and our firecracker wars we had in our backyards over the fence. Use to set on the back porch and he play his banjo and I was playing my guitar. Many memories. He was a God loving man and loved his family and all. My condolences to Linda and family. RIP my friend.
Those fireworks fights were a highlight to my childhood. Thank you for your kind words to my father. He really loved your friendship. ❤️
Doug was a gentle giant and a wonderful friend. I enjoyed every moment I spent with him. May he rest in love and peace…. until we tee it up again.
What a great privilege and pleasure to have know Doug for so many years. Very sad for your loss. Bittersweet but celebrating all that was Doug.
Linda and Family, I haven’t seen you guys in a while but I could remember like it was yesterday when we moved in beside yall. Doug was a great person and always had his two cents to put in for everything. He is no longer in pain and now free from all worries in life as we know it.
I know the grief of losing a loved one. You are in my prayers. There is really nothing others can do to lessen the pain other than being there for you and knowing you are loved.
Doug must have been part Irish, because he befriended and smiled and laughed with everyone he met. May he birdie every hole in heaven.
I miss you dad. Every moment of every day I still feel you here with me. God must needed a banjo playing comedian in his army. Until I see you again! Love you so much Dad. ❤️

Doug and I have been friends for over forty four years. During these years we worked together, played together, and grew old together. Doug had an amazing wit that brought humor and laughter to us all.
Dougs philosophy on life was much the same as his philosophy on golf, “Just Swing Hard”.
There is this old saying: People come into your life for a reason, season or a lifetime. Doug came into mine for all three.

I just learned about Doug leaving us. I am so sorry. He always lived life to the fullest and knew something about everything. The only thing I ever taught him was how to play Euchre. He was nice to be around and pleasant at all times. We will miss him. He did know how to live on earth. Hope to meet up again on day. Blessing to his family
My condolences to Linda and the family. Doug was one of the nicest guy you would like to know. We shared many of hours at the poker table with good fellowship. I will miss him as I know a lot of his friends will. God bless.
A good friend is one who is there for you when you need them the most.. that was Doug. Over the last thirty years Doug and I were that kind of friends. It is still very hard to believe that we will not talk every few days again. I will miss those conversations about life, business, and family and what we hoped for in the future. Judy and I will miss you.

6/18/23 I live in Reno Nevada and I just read Douglas’s obituary and watched the video. I’m so sorry for your loss. I served in the navy with Doug for four years on the USS Puget Sound.I haven’t seen him in fifty years.He was my best friend in the navy.Watching the funeral video I’m glad to see he had such a wonderful life and family. God Bless
Thank you Michael- I loved hearing my dad’s navy stories. He was a great man who knew how to have fun!

Doug was a great guy and dear friend. We enjoyed hunting together. His kindness will endure forever. My sincere condolences to all of his family.
