
Donald Harry “Don” Halk, age 75, of Woodway, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 20, 2025 in Round Rock, Texas.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service: 2PM Friday, February 28, 2025 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, 5201 Steinbeck Bend Drive in Waco.
A reception will follow the service in the funeral home’s reception center.
Don was born on August 2, 1949 in Victoria, Texas to Oscar Harry Halk Jr. and Hazel Ruth Jones Halk.
Don grew up in Victoria, Texas and graduated from Victoria High School in 1967. Following high school, Don attended Victoria College and Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M-Kingsville) graduating with a bachelors and masters degree in Psychology. Don also was in the US Army Reserves from 1970-1976.
Working in the prison system and mental health field as a Licensed Professional Counselor throughout his life, Don invested his life in people. His calm and patient personality allowed him to connect with and help many people from all walks of life.
Outside of work is where Don devoted himself to his true passion of music. Don played in bands throughout his life from his high school years into his adult years playing in all types of bands including: rock and roll, Christian, punk rock and worship groups. He also spent many years of his life teaching kids and teenagers how to play the guitar and mentoring them in building bands.
Don was a devoted follower of Jesus who served in his churches over the years as a deacon, praise band member, counselor and single parent support group leader.
Don is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patsy LaNell Gazaway Halk; son, Darrell Halk and wife Tiffany; daughter, Erin Ortiz and wife Nicole; grandchildren, Rylie Halk, Jordan Ortiz, and Macee Halk; and multiple cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to Brazos Meadows Baptist Church, 625 S. Hewitt Drive, Hewitt, Texas 76643.

I will always treasure all the time we spent together playing Praise and Worship music and serving our Heavenly Father together through music. The talks we had, the advice he gave me was priceless! Brother Don thank you for your kindness, your friendship, and the Honor of calling you my Brother in CHRIST! My Precious Brother, May you Rest in Heavenly Peace!
