“Dede” was born on June 5, 1944, in Bremerton, Washington. She was the baby of 4 girls born to Harvey Ferdinand and Edna Margaret (McCreight) Siegle. Dede graduated from Central Kitsap High School in Silverdale, WA., in 1962. In 1963, she chose her career path and enrolled in Mr. Lee’s Beauty School in Bremerton, WA. and received her Cosmetology License in 1964. After working at several salons, she found a home at Gene and Nancy’s Beauty Salon in Waco, Texas where she met lifelong friends that she considered family. In 1984, she became a business owner, opening her own salon called HairArt by Dede, which she ran until her retirement.

In 1962 while out with some friends she met Morris “Luke” Lucas, a handsome sailor from Waco, TX whose ship just happened to be in port at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. They were married less than 6 months later at her home overlooking the beautiful Puget Sound. They decided to make Waco, TX their home and within weeks Dede was saying “Ya’ll” and would be a Texan from then on. They had 2 children, Michael and Shawnna. Dede was a wonderful mother and loved being a part of her children’s lives. She forged a close bond to both Michael and Shawnna throughout the years. This year Dede and Luke were blessed to celebrate 60 years of marriage.

Dede loved to shop, and you would often find her at Marshalls. She loved playing softball and volleyball in church leagues. Later on, she enjoyed playing board games especially “Aggravation” with her grandchildren. Her grandchildren soon learned, like others who played against her, that their sweet “NeNe” was very competitive in anything she competed in.

Dede was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Edna Siegle; sister, Greta Foley; son, Michael Lucas; and daughter in law, Alicia Lucas.

Dede is survived by her husband, Luke; daughter, Shawnna Latino and husband Chad; grandchildren, Bailee Norris, Alexa Lucas, Aidan Latino, and Tristan Latino; sisters Voris Siegle and Marcia Siegle; her beloved pets, Cosby, and Midnight; and many extended family members who she loved dearly. There will never be another one like her, and she will always be deeply missed.

Special thanks to Bluebonnet Hospice, Dr. Tom Harris for all of your care and compassion. Thoughts and memories may be shared at www.LakeShoreFH.com

Thank you Reta. My precious sister, Dede, is so missed! A huge empty space has been created. She was so dear to everyone of us! It is tragic so that she inherited the (BRACA2) Cancer Gene passed down through my mother’s side of the family. She made a loving impact on this world, as did our precious mother.

Condolence from Patricia E. Farrer on December 17th, 2022 10:26 pm

Everyone that had the honor of knowing Dede fell in love with her. She had beauty and grace inside and out. She will always be in our hearts. Until we meet again my friend my thoughts are with you. I was blessed to know you! Pat Farrer.

Condolence from Eileen Alstad on December 18th, 2022 9:46 pm

So many childhood memories of Dede and her sisters living in Brownsville, Washington. We had freedom like kids don’t have today. We swam in Puget Sound almost daily in the summer, rowed to the dock in a leaky boat, found glass bottles in ditches to trade into the store for money to spend on candy, slept on the second floor of her barn in the hay, ran from stump to stump up on her hill to avoid the goats (most of which had horns), and climbed on top of the outhouse to reach the cherries in the summer. I met Luke once a few years ago and see why she moved to Texas! We kept in touch sporadically on Facebook. She was a beautiful, courageous lady who was devoted beyond measure to her family. My prayers for her Texas family and for her sisters, Marcia and Voris. Rest in Peace, dear Dede. I know you will be sorely missed.

For my sweet, beyond exceptional, sister. Our hearts are forever broken! Thank you for your sweet, genuine, legacy of love It is a lifelong gift, that keeps on giving with every memory. May the love from friends, and family, be like a “WARM BLANKET”, around Luke, your steadfast sweetheart, and husband, since you were 18 years old!

Marcia, my name is Darlene(Abbott) OBrien. I’m not sure if you remember me or not but back in the day,I use to come over to your house after church at Brownsville and play. Then your mom and dad would take me home to our home in Centeral Valley.
Dude contacted me while she was here caring for Voris. I am so so sorry for this loss in your family.

Condolence from Marcia Siegle on December 29th, 2022 11:11 am

Eileen: Thank you treasured friend! We had a “Huckleberry Finn” kind of childhood. Just what we could make of it out In the rustic, undeveloped, countryside. We understand the beauty of that now. Our friendship was priceless, and in our hearts to this day!

Condolence from Sally (Stone) McCarthy on January 4th, 2023 7:07 pm

I’m so sorry for your loss. I met DeDe in 5th grade at Brownsville Grade School. We were friends from then on. I remember staying the night at her home and singing a trio with her at a dinner at the fire station in Brownsville when we were 11 or 12. We both attended Brownsville Methodist Church and we went to high school together. I met Luke at a party (I don’t remember if DeDe was already there or if Sally B. and Myrna and I came later). Myrna met her first husband at that party. I’m so sorry to hear of her passing and sent love to the family there. I’m so very glad that she had such a happy life there in Waco!

Condolence from Berry Ball on January 9th, 2023 5:43 pm

Father time catches up with all of us. We never know which day will be our last, we can only live each day as if it were our last. It’s very sad when I see my classmates disappear, knowing that soon some day it will be me and I’m not ready to go just yet. Dede was a great gal, I remember her well, looks like she enjoyed life to the fullest. It’s hard to lose people like that.

Condolence from Darleen Petersen (Kuusela) on January 10th, 2023 3:18 pm

I remember Dede as a very tall and a mischievous person at times. Always in with the fun of things. Some of us would refer to her as “Bird” (because of her last name). She and Dianne Buker made a great team for high school PE. I was just so surprised at the list of classmates we have lost from the class of ’62. I am wishing everyone a wonderful new year and stay healthy.

Condolence from Marcia Siegle on March 8th, 2023 9:26 pm

Thank you Berry! In the “good ol’ days”, we shared interests in our 4-H Club. How memorable it was! It is interesting regarding the different residential contrasts that we have now. I hope you have a good environment, are healthy, and happy! It is great to hear from you!
