David Lee Battles, age 69, went to be with his Heavenly Father May 30, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

VISITATION:  6PM to 8PM Monday, June 6, 2022 at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco

FUNERAL SERVICE:  10AM Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at Lake Shore Funeral Home with interment following at Waco Memorial Park. CLICK HERE to view the Live Stream of the service.

David was born December 30, 1952 in Fort Worth, Texas to Luther and Lenita Battles.  He grew up in Waco and graduated from Waco High School in 1971.  After graduation David served four years in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1975.  On March 26, 1977 he married the love of his life, Paula Silvey Battles.  Together they were blessed with four children and twelve grandchildren.  David was a very loving, generous and adventurous man and cherished his time spent with family and friends.  He was very outgoing and friendly and never met a stranger.  If you knew David you also knew his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He faithfully and lovingly shared his love for Jesus his entire life.

David had a heart for helping people.   This was most apparent in his long and dedicated career as a Registered Nurse in the emergency room, home health care and hospice care.  In his free time, David enjoyed antiquing, fishing and working alongside his son, Philip, building wheelchair ramps and other home modifications for the elderly and disabled.  In addition, he loved spending quiet time in prayer and reading his Bible.  David’s greatest joy in life was spending quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Lenita Battles; brother, Mike Battles; sister, Brenda McGregor and grandson, Christian Scott Parker.  Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Paula Battles; daughters, Heather Inge and her husband Richard, Tara Battles and Sarah Battles; son, Phillip Battles and his wife Samantha; grandchildren, Christopher, Abrianna, Ariel, Isaiah, Isaac, Karina, Victoria, Darian, Isabella, Alaena and Anthony; sister, Pam Battles; brother, Gerald Battles and his wife Terri; brother-in-law, Judge Bob McGregor; sister-in-law, Annette Battles; numerous other relatives and friends and his loyal companion, Xena.

David’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Texas Home Health and Accent Care Hospice, especially Jason Butcher and Jennifer Rushing.

If friends so desire, memorial contributions in David’s memory can be made to the charity of your choice.  Thoughts and memories may be shared at www.lakeshorefuneralhome.com

Our condolences to the Battles family. David was a little older than me and younger than my older brother, Aaron. I was the same age of David’s sister, Brenda. We lived around the corner from the Battles family. Even though I didn’t hang out with David, I feel like I’ve known him and his siblings forever. What I remember about David, he always had this way of making you feel welcomed and accepted (you have to remember I was younger than him). I always felt included. He would smile and never talk down to you. He was always super kind and accepting . Later on in life, when I was around David, Paula and his children, the whole family had many of his qualities, plus David kept growing and developing as a good all around person and family man. I know David will be missed by his family sorely. When times get really hard, and you’re missing David, just remember David has done something for his family, he has made it where they can all spend Eternity with him (David) by doing what David did–he gave his life and heart to Jesus Christ and received Him as his Lord and Savior. In my opinion, that’s the greatest thing he ever did for his family. You will miss him on earth, but you can keep his memory alive with the wonderful memories y’all made with him here.
