David “Doc” was born January 8, 1935 in Elm Mott to parents, Lewis Rogers Hendrix and Emily Josie (Reeves) Hendrix, the second youngest of 10 children. David attended school in Elm Mott and GL Wiley in Waco where he excelled in basketball. He also played fast pitch softball in a men’s league where he pitched a mean drop ball. He joined the Navy in 1956 and while stationed in California at Alameda Naval Air Station, he met the love of his life, Leslie. They married in January 1959 and had two children, Johnny and Lisa. The family moved back to Texas in 1973.

David was a skilled woodworker and cabinet maker. He worked for LL Sams, Imperial Woodworking, and retired from Khoury Cabinet Company. David loved camping, water skiing, and old cars and car shows; but his greatest love was his family and grandchildren, especially watching them play sports and music.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents; and eight siblings.

Survivors include wife of 63 years, Leslie Hendrix; son, John Hendrix and wife Monica; daughter, Lisa Willis and husband Bob; grandchildren, Mandi Roberts and husband Jonathon, Casey Willis, Chance Hendrix and wife Suzy, Brady Willis, and Brett Hendrix; great grandchildren, Corbin, Kamryn, Johnny, and Payton; brother, Floyd Hendrix; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge a special thank you to the 4th floor staff at Saint Catherine Center, especially therapist Chris, for all of your professional care and concern.
