David Bailey, 36, of Waco, TX passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at his home surrounded by family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the building fund that David started at New Beginnings Christian Fellowship: 6328 Gholson Road, Waco, TX 76705.

David was born September 19, 1979 in Dallas, TX to Don & Chery Bailey. David was the 5th of 8 children. David served in the United States Air Force for six years. During that time, he learned Korean, and served our country with multiple tours overseas, including Kuwait and Afghanistan.

David graduated from UMHB with his Bachelor’s in English, with a minor in Education. He also learned German while attending UMHB, adding a third language to his repertoire. He planned on pursuing his Masters in counseling before he was diagnosed in 2014.

After graduating, David spent two years in China, teaching English to kids. He loved his students they affectionately called him “DVD” and he was the favorite teacher to many of them. While teaching, David picked up Mandarin Chinese and became fluent. He regularly enjoyed greeting staff at Asian restaurants in either Mandarin or Korean.

David loved to travel, and visited 18 countries while he lived in China, including Thailand and the Philippines. When in the states, he frequently was driving to visit friends or family in various parts of the country.

David was an amazing friend, son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin. He was always joking and making everyone around him laugh. He loved trivia and football, specifically the Dallas Cowboys. But David also had a deep and thoughtful side. He truly cared about his friends and family and was quick to listen and advise anyone who wanted to talk.

David was a believer, a child of God. His number one desire was for everyone he knew to come to know Jesus as their Lord & Savior, so that they could experience the joy and happiness that he had and so clearly expressed.

He was a devoted member of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship, a church that drew him in like family. David loved studying the Bible with other Christians, and made a difference to so many lives with his faith and his desire to serve and minister. He shared thoughts from the Bible and from his own walk with God every Sunday in church, even when he was physically in pain and not able to attend church comfortably. He was loved tremendously by everyone at his church and was supported with love and help throughout his illness.

David was greeted in heaven with a big hug from his Grandaddy & Granny, his Grandpa, his Uncle Oak, his Uncle David, his Uncle Shot, his Aunt JoAnn, his Aunt Deborah, his cousin Paul, and his childhood friend Ross. We know that they are enjoying their reunion and we love that they are there to show David around heaven.

David is survived by his parents Don & Chery Bailey; his brothers & sistersinlaw, Kyle Bailey, Heath & Mollie Roach, John & Trista Bailey, and Stephen & Kathryn Bailey; his sisters & brotherinlaw, Ginger Bailey, Bethany & Brett Smith, and Melody Bailey; his maternal
grandmother, Sue Landers; his nephews & nieces, Della, Donna, Elijah, Sam, Daniel, Micah, Kaitlyn, Cheyenne, Kasyn, Sebastyn, Jake, and one arriving in January; 9 aunts and uncles; and dozens and dozens of cousins.
