Darryl came into the world fighting as a preemie and he departed fighting, but he lost his battle with cancer.

Darryl was born on April 9, 1959, to Alice Louise Laymon and Dave Watson Jr. A lifelong resident of Waco, he lived most of his life in the same neighborhood and attended the historic RL Smith Elementary (razed 2013) and other Waco schools. Of course, he was a Baylor Bear fan.

Darryl has always loved to work with his hands. As a preteen he started helping a neighbor complete home repairs and developed skills which would prove to be very “handy” in his future employment. He worked for Johnson Roofing Company, Empire Seed Company and for independent home renovators performing a variety of home improvement projects.

Darryl loved his pets and had quite a menagerie which included fish, birds, dogs, rabbits, and a one-legged rooster, spur intact. Having a very green thumb, he was successful at growing a range of fruits (tree and vine), vegetables, and greens. He loved to hunt small game, but one of his biggest loves was fishing. At times you would find him intensely watching something on television that appeared to be exciting only to find out it was a bass fishing tournament. His understated style served him well in many pool tournaments as he bested many to win. He also appreciated music and word search puzzles.

Darryl loved his family and friends and enjoyed being outdoors. You could often find him at Rev Wilbert Austin Sr. Community Park barbequing for friends, watching a friendly, competitive game of basketball, or playing a mean game of dominoes.

Darryl was preceded in death by his mother, Alice L. Buhl; father, Dave Watson Jr.; stepfather, Charles A. Buhl; grandfather, OC Laymon; and grandmother, Velma J.”Big Mama” Ward.

Darryl leaves to cherish his memory a devoted uncle, Bobby J. Laymon of San Antonio; four sisters, Debra Thornton (Jimmy) of Waco, Joyce Bridges (Roderick) of Houston, Laurie Buhl of Waco, and Traci Buhl of Houston; one brother, Kevin Buhl of Waco; a bonus daughter and her 3 children, Rhonda Anderson of Waco; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
