It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Carolyn Rochelle (Smith) Harville on January 8, 2025. Carolyn, age 63, was born on August 4, 1961, in Pasadena, Texas, to Miller Gerald Smith and Audrey Larue (Dickey) Smith.
A graduate of North Shore High School in Houston, Carolyn was passionate about dance and actively engaged in various school organizations, forming cherished bonds with her close friends and sisters. During her school years, she met Rick Harville, the love of her life, with whom she later married, creating a beautiful family. Although their marriage ended, they remained friends, consistently supporting their children and grandchildren.
Carolyn proudly served in the United States Army and went on to earn her associate’s degree in nursing. She spent many fulfilling years working in ER and Trauma units, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and expertise. In her free time, she enjoyed interests such as interior design, art, dancing and watching movies. Her infectious laughter, sharp intellect and insatiable curiosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Miller Gerald Smith and Audrey Larue (Dickey) Smith and twin sister, Marilyn Gayle Smith.
Those left to cherish her memory include her youngest sister, Kathy Gouge and husband, Joel; son, James L. Harville and fiancé, Mel; daughter, Rachel Thomas and husband, Eric; grandchildren, Avery and Brady; former husband, Rick Harville; and nephew, Cole Balgord.
While we understand that her friends would like to honor her memory and say goodbye, we will be hosting a private ceremony exclusively for immediate family members in accordance with her wishes. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.

Rest in peace, mother. I miss you greatly. Know you will always be held close to my heart.
