Celebration of Life: 10:00am – 11:30am, Saturday, November 9 at Lake Shore Funeral Home

Carlos, “Bud”, was born September 24, 1947 to Carlos Castulo Fernandez, Sr. and Della Ella Fernandez in Deming, New Mexico. Carlos grew up in El Paso, Texas where he met his wife of 51 years, Susan Kemper Fernandez. Carlos and Susan lived in Pasadena, Texas most of their married life. Upon retirement, they moved to Bellville, Texas and later to Lorena, Texas.

Carlos was a union electrician with a love of hot rods and motorcycles. He later opened his own business, an automotive and body shop, in Pasadena, Texas. He then went on to get his teaching certificate and taught auto body repair and automotive technology for twenty-five years at Smiley High School, Pasadena High School and finally retired from Bellville High School.
Carlos was often found in his garage working on cars or building anything he could think of. If he didn’t have a tool he needed, he would make it out of whatever he had laying around. If you needed it fixed, Carlos could fix it.

He loved to tell stories and never met a stranger. He was a father, grandpa and friend to anyone who needed it. He loved music and got ultimate joy from his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Della Fernandez.

He is survied by his wife, Susan Fernandez; his daughters and sons-in law, Christi Fernandez Hicks, Kelli Fernandez Uttech, Michael Hicks and Robert Uttech; his grandchildren, Brenna Fernandez-Bundick, Madison Villarrial, Meredith Villarrial, Dylan Hicks and Sharon Uttech; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra Suhr, Sylvia LaFoy, Jon LaFoy and Mike Nicoli; and numerous nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.

He left a mark on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him and will be missed by all who knew him.

Something in my heart made me look for Mr. Fernandez. I was shocked to hear he had passed away. He was my teacher at Pasadena High School from 92-95. He was a great teacher and a great friend. It saddens me to see has passed but I believe in the good lord above. We will see him again in time. My heart goes out to his family, I know you miss him. He lives you very much and only wants the best for you. Succeed in life as he did and live with no regrets.

We talked about he and his wife coming to El Paso for a visit!!! GOD BE WITH YOU ALL DURING THIS SAD TIME!!!Know that Carlos is probably in Heaven performing like Elvis Presley just like in 4th grade!!!He will be missed by everyone who had the privilege to know him!!!!

Condolence from Traci Rogers-Earl on November 15th, 2019 11:22 am

What a beautifully written obit and video composition! Carlos lived a beautiful life! When I worked with him at PHS, he often spoke of his daughters and his grandchildren with a smile on his face! I can see in the video that there was never a dull moment, and he wouldn’t trade that for the world! So true that he never met a stranger. I recall meeting him for the first time and discussing classic country music. I felt like I had known him all my life! He will be missed!
Sincerely,
Traci Rogers-Earl

My condolences to Susan and his family. Bud played an important role in life, knowing him during my time growing up in El Paso. An inspiration on how I became today. “The way of a mechanic” . Not so much as in the automotive field but in the vertical transportation field. I learned the use of tools from both him and his dad, “Charlie”. He has forever imprinted a mark in life. Rest in Peace ol’ friend.
