Candy D. Spence

Candy D. Spence, 67, of China Spring, passed away suddenly Sunday, November 6, 2022 in Waco.

Visitation: 6 – 8 PM Wednesday, November 9 at Lake Shore Funeral Home

Funeral Service: 10 AM Thursday, November 10 at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Rick Cobb officiating

Candice “Candy” Darlene Spence was born March 21, 1955 in Dallas to parents Aubrey and Dorothy (Lansford) Hightower.

She served in Empowerment House feeding local families for years, homeless ministry- Journey on the streets, and volunteered at Victim Services with Waco PD for many years. Candy was a retired teacher at China Spring ISD for 30 plus years serving in additional capacity helping students pay for lunches so they weren’t left out and giving gifts and accolades to the cleaning crew weekly to show how appreciated they were when most would be overlooked.

She was an inspiration and bright light to all who knew her. She left in God’s timing which is perfect. We have a hefty legacy to carry on and huge shoes to fill in her absence. She was loved by so many and she knew how much she was needed and appreciated, but she didn’t need any recognition. Just knowing she helped one person was enough to keep her cup overflowing with joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Suzanne Cremonese, and Linda Vicha.

She is survived by her husband, Eric Spence; daughters, Erica Spence-Armstrong (Jim), Denice Jones (Jeremy); son, Shane Spence; grandchildren, Cayman Spence, Kierstyn Jones (Tyler Havard), Brandt Jones (Rachel Conner), Kannon Spence, and Karson Spence; great-grandchildren, Rhyder Jones, and Kayson Havard; and brothers, Rick Hightower (Sharon), and James Hightower.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to Renovation Church, 4809 W. Waco Dr., Waco, TX 76710.

Place of Service: Lake Shore Funeral Home , 5201 Steinbeck Bend; Waco, TX 76708

  5. Fly high sweet friend. Your friendship was one of my treasures. Our outings for breakfast, lunch and or us being on a mission were the best times. Seeing you in your element helping others and enjoying what you were doing are some of my fondest memories. Meeting you at the office, and changing your life and seeing you flourish with the help you needed was and is one of our favorite stories. Going with you to feed the homeless and take them bags to help them out were beautiful moments to see. No fear, just love…….They loved you and waited for you when you would show up. Buying 100 pairs of socks, blankets, and back packs and distributing them was such precious time spent with you. You knew the ropes, where to go and who was the neediest. I will miss you and our chats, friendship and time spent together. I love you.
