Bob Burk Hays of Waco went home to be with the Lord November 22, 2021, at the age of 90.  A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 18 at First Baptist Church in Abilene.  He will be interred at Texas State Veterans Cemetery following the service.

Bob was born to Claude and Betty Hays in San Angelo but following the death of his parents, went to live at the Hendrick Home for Children in Abilene.  He graduated from Abilene High School and volunteered with the U.S. Army to fight in Korea. Upon his return, he attended Hardin-Simmons University where he met and married Glenabel Ferguson.  He furthered his education at North Texas State University where he received a masters and doctorate in Education.

Bob began a teaching career at Western State College in Gunnison, CO.  He taught there until his retirement.  In 1990, he moved back to Abilene to work at the Hendrick Home for Children where he grew up.   Bob left a lasting legacy on the Hendrick Home having started the Rhodes Child Development Center and the Family Care Unit which was started to help single mothers get back on their feet.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers and sisters; his wife Glenabel; and his son Richard.  He is survived by his daughter, Denitia Blount and son-in-law Norris Blount of Waco; son, Charles Peterson and daughter-in-law Amber Peterson of Ridgecrest, CA; and grandchildren, Natasha, Tyler, Hannah, Levi, Joshua, Nevaeh, and Asher.
