Birdie Dee Hunt, 92, of Waco, went home with the Heavenly Father on Friday, May 9, 2014, from her residence.

Visitation: 6 – 8 PM, Thursday, May 15, Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, Waco.

Services: 11 AM Friday, May 16, Pleasant Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1600 E. League St, Waco

Birdie was born September 16, 1921 to Steve and Nettie (Walker) Murphy in McLennan County. She had one sister and four brothers, all who have preceded her in death. Birdie was educated in the Waco school district. Later in life, she went on to graduate, and became a Certified Nursing Assistant, where she used her skill at caring for others at various nursing homes in the area over her working years. She held many other jobs in her lifetime, but she took great pride in her service as a CNA.

Birdie married James C. Hunt, Jr., and to this union, they had one beautiful child, Elouise Hunt. Birdie’s daughter was the love and light of her life, and Birdie was an exceptional mother. She would later become a grandmother to three, a great-grandmother to eight, and a great-great-grandmother of one.

Birdie joined Toliver Chapel Baptist Church at an early age, and spent her life loving the Lord. At age 19, she changed her membership to Pleasant Olive Missionary Baptist Church. There, she served as an usher for many years, worked as a secretary to the Usher Board, and later, she became the President of the Usher Board at POMBC. She loved and attended Women’s Mission through church as well. Birdie attended church religiously until her health would no longer allow it.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mrs. Clemmie Mae Chatman; four brothers, Arthur Lee Murphy, Steve Murphy, Jr., Lonnie Murphy, and Johnnie B. Murphy; and former husband, James C. Hunt, Jr.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Elouise Hayden Hunt of Waco; one grandson, Michael Hayden of Waco; two granddaughters, Terresa Hadden and husband, Kenny, of Waco, and Stephanie Hayden of Austin; eight great-grandchildren, Jason Jones and wife, Michelle, of Ft. Campbell, KY, Michael Irvin of Waco, Cameron Richardson of Austin, Skyler and Sidney Hadden of Waco,  Malik, Armani, and Javon Hayden, also of Waco;  one great-great-grandson, Austin Pierre of Ft. Campbell, KY; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members and dear friends.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice, notably, Kim Thompson and Francisca Okyem, for their love, care, and attention over the past year of Birdie’s life. Also, thanks to POMBC Women’s and Men’s Ministries, Brother Henry Williams, Brother James Gilmore, Sister Juanita Thornton, and a very, very special Thank You to Sister Mary D. Franklin.  TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

Memorials in Memory of Mrs. Birdie Hunt can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Condolence from Dot Freeman on May 14th, 2014 11:35 am

We are thinking of you during this difficult time. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel. Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer. Those we hold closest never leave us, they live onin the kindness they’ve shared and the love they brought into our lives. Love you Stephanie.
