Bartlett Massey Whatley, 77, of China Spring, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at the VA Hospital in Temple, after an extended battle with Multiple Myeloma. Bart was born in Elba, Alabama on August 6, 1936 to Lois and Herbert Whatley. Bart married the love of his life, Kitty Stacey, who was his wife of 57 years, and together they had 3 daughters. Bart served for 20 years as a United States Marine. He then worked as a Veterans counselor at the VA regional office in Waco for an additional 20 years after retiring from the Marine Corps. After his retirement from the VA Regional Office, he became a rancher, owning and running the BK Ranch in China Spring. Bart was also a 32nd degree Mason in the George N. Denton Lodge #24 in Waco.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Gloria Bragg and Louise Jacobs; and brother, Ed Whatley.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Kitty Whatley; daughters, Linda Cook and husband James

    My wife Jean and I met Bart and Kitty on Oahu Hawaii in 1956 when I was transferred to MCAS Kaneohe bay for postal duty. Bart and I were Marine Corps (0161) Postal clerks. We enjoyed many happy social events together and became very close friends.
