Barbara Buhl, 75, of Waco, passed away May 25, 2019.

Visitation: 5-7 pm, Friday, May 31 at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, in Waco.

Funeral Service: 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 1 at Goodwill Baptist Church, 108 Falls County, in Lott. Burial to follow at Clover Hill Cemetery.

Barbara Ann Buhl was born in Gadsden, Alabama on May 18, 1944 to Wilma Wilson and Leon Buhl. She was raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where she graduated from William Penn High School in 1962. Shortly after graduation, she briefly moved to New York to work, then to Washington, D.C.

Barbara was an Administrative Assistant to the economist and author, Pat Choate at TRW in Washington, D.C.  She later became an Administrative Assistant for the Joint Center for Community and Political Policy. She left D.C. for a short period in the mid-70s to live and work in San Francisco, CA.

Barbara founded an organization to train and develop office skills for high school girls. She was on call to assist Major General Fred Leigh and his wife with their non-profit organization, Taia Peace Foundation, providing aid to Sierra Leone and Liberia. She also volunteered with the D.C. Coalition of 100 Black Women where she served as the secretary for many years. As a volunteer with the D.C. Coalition, she helped during the organizing of the first 100 Black Men Cook Event held at the RFK Stadium. This event continues to serve annually. She served this organization faithfully until she relocated to Waco in 2011.

Barbara accepted Christ in the mid-80s at the former Full Gospel AME Zion Church. After moving to Waco, she joined Carver Park Baptist Church where she remained faithful until her health failed.

Her hobbies included, but were not limited to, reading, writing, spending time with family, community outreach and activism, as well as shopping. Barbara wrote two unpublished books.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; brother, Marvin Buhl; and sister, Shirley McKinnley.

She is survived by her brothers, Leon Buhl Jr. and wife Cynthia, Ralph Buhl and wife Mamie, Steven Buhl Sr., Jerry Buhl Sr. and wife Teresa, Russell Buhl and wife Ramonda; sister, Margie Grayson and husband Gene; god-daughter, Alexis Myers; lifelong friends, Joanne Barnes, Alma Myers, Diana Brown, Jessyl and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
