Alfred Lee Kinsey

Alfred Kinsey

Alfred Lee Kinsey, born Sept. 25, 1933, was healed in Heaven on October 5, 2016. He was born in Belton, but lived most of his life in Austin before moving to Temple in 2013.

He is survived by his “first wife” of 51 years, Barbara Ann House Kinsey, and his children, Sarah and Paul Ricard of Little Rock, Arkansas, Laura and Cal Slonaker of Waco, Alfred and Seleana Kinsey of Austin; and Goddaughter, Renee Watkins of Cedar Park, Texas.

He is also survived by grandchildren, Catherine and John Ricard who have fond memories of picking presents from the “grandfather drawer,” learning not to pull his finger, and having Mickey Mouse drawn on their hands.

Al was one of five brothers, and his brothers Virgil, Vernon, and Clarence (Red) predeceased him. He is survived by his brother and fishing buddy, Lloyd Kinsey and sister-in-law Elsie of Kingsland, Texas, his sister-in-law Faye Kinsey of Smithville, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Al accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was in his thirties and never lost his grateful spirit, beginning every prayer, including at meal times, with “Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for Jesus.” Next to God, Al loved his family most, and he showed his love in many ways, especially through cooking. From his signature fudge pie and chocolate cake (with cream cheese under the fudge icing) to ham at Thanksgiving, brisket, beef tips, and chicken fried steak, to name a few, Al cooked enough at meals to feed family and friends for days.

Al worked many long hard hours and used his little free time spoiling his children. Sometimes to such an extent that Barbara became concerned they would grow up to be slackers. Turns out she had nothing to worry about.

He loved playing practical jokes on people, including unsuspecting nieces and nephews who worked for him at Arby’s. His own children, grandchildren, and even his wife were not exempt from his hijinks. He enjoyed fishing, watching Texas Longhorn and Dallas Cowboy football games and helping those less fortunate.

He helped sponsor Vietnamese refugees in the 70’s and opened his home to friends, family, and even strangers who needed a meal or a place to stay. Part of Al’s legacy is living out James 2:16, which he often quoted, “If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?”

Donations to your local Angel Tree ministry would be a fitting tribute to Al in lieu of or in addition to flowers. Christmas was his favorite holiday, and he would not want any child to go without toys at Christmas.

Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2016, at High Pointe Baptist Church in Austin. The family would love for you to come if you can and, as Al would often say, “Have a good day and pass it on.”

Mr. Kinsey will be in state and available for viewing from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 14th at the funeral home.

Condolence Messages

  1. Dear Family,

The Death of a loved one is one of the most difficult things to bear. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss, and know that your pain does not go unnoticed by our loving Creator, Jehovah God (Psalm 34:18; 147:3). It was never His purpose for us to die (Ecclesiastes 3:11), so He has arranged through His son, Christ Jesus, to bring back to life ” all those in the memorial tombs.” (John 5:28) Imagine the joy of enjoying the company of your dear loved one once again, living on a Paradise earth, free from sickness and even death (Revelation 21:4). May this guaranteed promise from God soothe your hearts in the weeks and months to come. (Revelation 21:5)

    Dear Barbara and family,
My heart is heavy at the news of Al’s passing, but joyful that he is whole again and in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Our hearts hurt for you and the pain I know you must feel missing him. It must at times feel like a wave crashing on you. We are so very sorry that he is gone, but I know your faith and you are secure in knowing that you will see him again! He is dwelling in that mansion He has built for you too!
Know we are praying and thinking of you, our sweet friends.
    Donna and Ken

  3. My husband, Keith, and I met Barb and Al over 18 years ago when we moved frim Ohio to Austin, Tx. It was a blessed friendship that we hold dear. Al always had a smile for everyone and he loved others as Jesus would loved them – fully with his whole heart. He will always be near and dear to our hearts and we know one day, Al will meet us with that big smile and loving heart.

  6. Carmen Gutierrez

Many prayers to your Family Mr. Kinsey as I am very sure you will be greatly missed but for only a short while… i wonder how it must be like to walk on those streets of Gold.. to be pain free , to be face to face with the one who gave it all for us on that rugged cross one day.. , to step on a flower , only to have it spring back up because nothing has or will ever die there; to be accepted in the Kingdom of God because of Jesus.. I did not get to meet you here in person but i certainly look forward to meeting you in Heaven upon my arrival one day. God bless your wonderful family during this time and your daughter Laura from whom i got to learn about your amazing life and testimony! Revelations 12:11

  7. Ann Marie Grzinich

Dear Barbara and family: Al and Barbara hold a very special place in my heart. When I moved to Austin from New York in 1993, I left my family and my church with a heavy heart. I met them in church and instantly had family here in Texas. I will always treasure the love and acceptance I felt from both of you. I pray God’s peace that passes all understanding be with you until we all meet again in heaven. Love forever, Ann Marie Grzinich

  8. The Keys family sends its Condolences to Barbara and the Kinsey Family, although we never had the pleasure of meeting Al it is very apparent reading the comment from friends and family that he was a good man and will be greatly missed. We are offered this from the book of Corinthians ; So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
    Corinthians 5:6-8

  9. Mike and Connie Moreland

    Barbara,
Connie and I were saddened to hear of Al’s passing. What a great and lovable man. I know he will be missed by many. You and your family remain in our thoughts and prayers.

  10. Matthew & Cherrie & Girls

We will miss you very much especially me Uncle Al. I’ll always remember our times together at KFC, Royal Burger, and Arby’s. Memories that are some of my favorite. You were always there for Tim and I and always a pleasure to be around (even though you loved to play silly jokes on us ). I always looked forward to being at work with you and working side by side with you. You rest now and I look forward seeing you again when death and pain and sickness is done away with as Rev. 21:3,4 so lovengly promises. My love and prayers are with you Aunt Barbara and Al, Sarah, and Laura. And the rest of the family.

  11. I enjoyed reading the reflections and memories here. Kept smiling the whole time thinking that’s definitely Al! I’ll see you all Saturday. Praying for all of you.

  12. Today is October 1st 2021…….
With a heavy heart,,,, my thoughts are with My Uncle Al & his family , ALSO,
With His Brother, My Father, Lloyd Kinsey.
    On October 5th, 2016,,
Uncle Alfred went to sleep ,,
Then a few days later, on October 24th
my father closed his eyes and went to sleep.
I MISS YOU BOTH, SO VERY MUCH!!
So thankful and blessed to have such wonderful memories of you both ❣️❣️
Here is a poem I wrote to my Dad, on November 25th 2016:
I miss you Dad ,the pain is great ,
however, I know you would not hesitate,
To tell me,” Dink,, I know you’re blue, but if I were you, yes I’d be sad too…..
But soon I would learn ,to be glad ,to have made all the good memories that we have had❣️”
    So……
“Turn these tears into rays of sun and go outside and have some fun!”
Don’t Cry when you think of ME,
    Instead, BE HAPPY!😊
    “I LOVE YOU- ❤️
    Signed…….
    Your Dear Ol’ Pappy🤓
