Alfred (Al) Simek, 82, of Waco went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be 6 to 8pm Monday, March 16th at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco. Funeral services will be 10am Tuesday, March 17th at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple under the direction of Lake Shore Funeral Home with Bro. Joey Crenshaw and Bro. Steve Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Seaton Cemetery. Mr. Simek may be viewed starting Monday. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online Guest Book at www.LakeShoreFuneralHome.com.
Alfred was born on September 1, 1926 in Bell County to William and Bertha (Hrachovy) Simek. He married the love of his life on September 7, 1947 and treasured 62 years of marriage with Lorena (Hejl) Simek. He worked at General Tire and Rubber Co. until his retirement in April of 1989. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He always made special time for his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, playing dominoes and having family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife, Lorena Simek; son, Larry Simek and wife Judy; daughters, Caroline Banks and husband Tommy, Linda Nolan and husband, Lonny, Wanda Maddy, Janis Drake and husband Sam, Lori Hodges and husband Darrell; brother, Leroy Simek and wife Ora Mae; sisters, Wilma Baine, and Vlasta Machalicek; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and many family and friends.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason Nolan, Jeremy Simek, Bart Woody, Tony Banks, Patrick Nolan, Justin Hodges and Jase Hodges.
The family would like to thank Providence Hospice and Texas Home Health Care for the wonderful loving care received during a very difficult time.

Lorena and family-
I feel that I have lost a part of my family as well. All of you have always been very special to us. Deanna said last night there must be one huge party going on in heaven. K and Al are together again, K on his harmonica and Al on the Sax.

James remembers Uncle Alfred as a kind man who was always happy. Alfred (and Lorine) always made me feel very welcome in the family.

Janis, it seems like yesterday that we were in school walking to and from each other’s house. Your dad was always so sweet. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Sam and your family at this time.

My best childhood memories are of being with your family. Al was a one of a kind man. We had great times and I will always cherish those memories. I bet Al and Dad are having a grand ol’ time about right now. Sure hope heaven was ready for the both of them! You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.
