Funeral Service: 10AM, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Lake Shore Funeral Home with interment immediately following at Waco Memorial Park

John was born on February 19, 1932, in Marlin, Texas, and grew up in the small town of McClanahan, Texas, just outside of Marlin. John was the second of three sons born to John Mocek, Sr. and Vickie (Swatloski) Mocek. His early years were spent working and helping on the family farm. He often mentioned picking cotton in the hot sun and although the work was hard, he seemed to hold a special place in his heart for those times. After graduating from high school in 1950, his country called him into military service in 1952, to serve in the Korean War. John was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon his release from military service, he entered the Southern College of Commerce in Ft. Worth, Texas, studying Radio and Television Repair. In 1955, upon completing his studies and receiving his diploma, John married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Kroll on November 3, 1956, in Marlin, Texas. The couple moved to Waco, Texas and started a family that would eventually include four children. John later found employment at McKinley Television and Appliance. Mr. McKinley, due to health reasons, eventually sold the business to John. Elizabeth then joined him in the business. With her college background in accounting and secretarial studies, she took over all the accounting and payroll duties. Together, the couple formed Mocek’s Tv & Appliance, which eventually grew to be Curtis Mathes Home Entertainment Center, the exclusive dealer of Curtis Mathes Televisions in Waco, Texas, and expanding the business to four additional TV and Appliance rental stores. After successfully growing his business, John’s desire to recreate memories of his early years on the farm, became reality when he acquired some land on the banks of the Bosque River. He started a farm, built a log cabin and enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising cattle, as well as hosting many family events over the years. He was able to recapture some of the happy times he had enjoyed in his younger days. John continued to enjoy his farm well into his 90’s, until his health would no longer allow him to do so. He was truly a blessed man. Those who knew and loved him would definitely say, “He lived his life in his very own way.”

John is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Mocek; son, Randy Mocek and wife Robin; daughter, Kathy Kelm and husband Donald; son, Brad Mocek and wife Beth; son, Brian Mocek and wife Stacey; grandchildren, Colin Mocek and wife Lindsey, Jared Mocek, Braden Kelm, Tiffany Wilkes and husband Abraham, Allison Stallard and husband Remington, Jeremy Mocek and wife Elizabeth, Jordan Kooy and husband Case; great-grandchildren, Ellery Mocek, Nora Mocek, Reagan Wilkes, Cooper Wilkes and Phoenix Stallard.

The Pallbearers will be Braden Kelm, Donald Kelm, Colin Mocek, Don Mocek, Jared Mocek and Jeremy Mocek.
