Condolence from Maurice Hunt on October 26th, 2022 5:00 pm

I am so sorry Bill has passed away; I valued his friendship very much. For the past 42 years at Baylor. Bill was one of the most tolerant persons I have every met, and one of the kindest. His capacity to listen to the troubles of others, without divulging his own, was legendary in the Baylor English Department. He was the rarest of human beings.

Condolence from Maurice and Pam Hunt on October 26th, 2022 5:12 pm

We are so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. He was a true friend and amazing raconteur. We treasure our Starbuck’s visits and literature recommendations. His cheesecakes were heavenly, and his generosity was well-known and appreciated. Many prayers for comfort and peace to all of his family.

Condolence from Tom Hanks on October 28th, 2022 10:04 am

Bill’s death leaves a hole that will never quite be filled. His wry sense of humor, his at-will gruffness (never used in malice), his incredible range of knowledge of modern literature, and his overall just plain decency–all these do not go far enough in describing this remarkable man. For those who knew him, 81 years was not enough.
