Thelbert Bum Washington, Jr., 68 of Woodway passed away on Tuesday, November 3rd.

Visitation: Friday, November 6, 2015 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, Wacom TX 76708

Homegoing Celebration: Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 1:00PM at Greater Waco Baptist Church, 912 East Loop 340, Waco, Texas 76705 with pallbearers, Gregory Parks, Jr., Thomas Segrest, Shon Washington-Segrest, Taurus Lang, Willie Roy Favors, and Jerry Carroll.

Interment: Monday, November 9, 2015 at 11:00AM Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen where the United States Air Force Honor Guard will perform military honors. Honorary pallbearers are Thelbert’s brothers, Clyde Washington, Willie Washington, Randy Washington, Charles Washington, Elgin Washington and Darron Washington.

Thelbert was born in Coolidge, Texas on November 16, 1946 to the late Thelma Bum, Sr. and Dorothy Taulton Washington. Graduating from Coolidge Community High School in 1965, Thelbert decided he wanted to serve his country during the Vietnam War by enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served his country honorably for over 22 years as an aircraft mechanic and a document specialist clerk, retiring in 1989 as a Master Sergeant. During his active duty career, Thelbert traveled the world and lived in Germany, England, the state of Idaho and back to Texas in Abilene. Thelbert married the love of his life, Claranesse Carroll in Groesbeck, Texas on November 13, 1970. Thelbert achieved his Bachelor’s Degree from Hardin-Simmons University in 1995. Thelbert and Claranesse moved to the Waco area in 1994 from Abilene. Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX being their last duty station, they were active members of Faith Baptist Church and transferred by letter to Greater Waco Baptist Church. Thelbert was a beloved member of the church and especially enjoyed his work with the children’s ministry. In his younger years, he enjoyed a good game of racquetball, and going fishing to any fishing hole large or small. Thelbert was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, watching faithfully and cheering them on in the good games and the bad games. Thelbert is preceded in death by his parents, Bum and Dorothy Washington, Sr.; and his brothers, Joe Washington and Larry Washington.

Thelbert leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of over 44 years, Claranesse Washington of Woodway; his four daughters, Constance Pennon and her husband Alvin of Childress, Veronica Washington-Parks and her husband Gregory of Cibolo, Twala Washington-Segrest and her husband Thomas of Leander, and Pamela Washington-Payten of Dallas; his siblings, Clyde Washington, Willie Washington, Randy Washington, Charles Washington, Elgin Washington, Darron Washington and Veronica Washington; his six grandchildren, Keneshia, Brianna, Shon, Jeromy, Trinity, and Jerimyah ; one great grandchild, Tykeysheun; along with a host of other loving family members and friends.
