Robert Louis Johnson, Sr., 65, of Waco, passed peacefully from this life on the morning of January 4, 2016 after a gradual decline in health.

Visitation: Friday, January 8, 2016 at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM

Celebration of Life and Thanksgiving Service Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 10:00AM at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend, Waco.

Robert was born to Lula Mae Giddings-Johnson and Robert Louis Taylor on July 23, 1950 in Waco, TX. He was the 6th of 9 children, Willie “Billie” Floyd Mims (deceased), Carol Yvonne “Mickey” (deceased), Donald “Duck” Ray Johnson (deceased), Wayne Alfred Johnson (deceased), Charles Roland Johnson (deceased), Wendell “Pickle” E. Johnson, Eric “Fivey” Ronald Johnson, and Gregory Dwayne Johnson. Robert graduated from GW Carver High School in 1969 where he was voted Best Dressed and Most Popular during his time there. He completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at Paul Quinn College and then went on to complete his Masters in Guidance & Counseling at Prairie View A&M University. Robert loved history and coaching and worked in several school districts as a history teacher and football coach, including Waco, Gholson, Hubbard and Marlin school districts.

Robert married the love of his life, Debra Gail Cosby, on February 9, 1974. On April 16, 1976, they gave birth to, Robert Johnson, Jr. and in July 18, 1978, they had their daughter, Misti Johnson.

Robert his survived by his wife, Debra; his children, Robert Johnson, Jr., Misti Johnson (Steven); and grandson, Kalil; brothers, Wendell Eric Johnson and his wife Maudine, and Greg Johnson and his wife Dara; brother-in-law, Keith Cosby and his wife Toye; along with a host of nephews and nieces that were dear to his heart.
